Suspension lowering overnight

Parked the car up last night and came home from work today 24 hrs later to find the car had lowered to comfort entry height, as soon as I started it up it raised to the correct standard height, no warning lights or anything displayed,
Is this normal from time to time for the air to drain out of the system to prolong its life?
A search on the internet brings up conflicting reports from leaks in the system to its normal.
Had the car 2 weeks and it's the first time it's happened, have I accidentally pressed something or changed a setting the last thing I was doing was programming the seat positions and the steering wheel position before I locked it up last night.

It should nt do it on it's own accord. What year do you have? Was it down to it's bump stops? Very low?

It's a 2008 TDV8, it's been left 2 hours now and it's still ok, it was all the way down

If it was down to the bump stops then I'm afraid you have an air leak. Not a bad one as you say it takes a night to lower itself. It's still ok to use as the pump is not saying car rising slowly etc. Try raising the car to extended level and leave overnight and see what happens.

Raised it to high level and got the message car rising slowly, is this normal? It may be due to me raising and lowering it a few times and emptying the air out the system?
Left it parked in high mode so will see what it's like in the morning

we lifted upto off road height last night, came out this morning and it hasn't moved a mm, this was confirmed when i started it up it didn't lift anymore and nothing to say it was rising.
i will keep an eye on it to see if it happens again and take it back to the dealer if i have anymore issues.
i'm definately investing in a warranty for peace of mind

Could be a ride height sensor playing up. The vehicle wakes up periodically and levels itself. As it can only level downwards with the engine off, you end up with the vehicle lowering overnight. By putting it in off road height you put the sensors in a different position which might prevent one reading incorrectly. This same thing happened with mine - no drop in off road mode.

Alternatively, you might have a faulty corner valve which is letting one corner down slightly so again, the vehicle lowers over night in order to stay level.

After that, you might have a leaking airbag or a leak in a line running from the corner valve to the airbag.

Mine used to lower on one corner so I've replaced the sensors and valves and it now sits down about 20mm all round about a minute after switching off the engine but doesn't appear to drop any further than that. This drop is not unusual as I understand it. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Simon,

Try raising it to extended (off road) mode then disconnect the battery and see what happens overnight.

If there's a leak only the respective corner would drop, unless of course its a central leak.

I did this when the front end was dropping, sadly after replacing the complete front suspension dampers/ air spring units. I found out it was the "Front Auxiliary Valve Block" that was leaking. Cost me USD100 to replace.

If I'd done this first would have saved me the cost of the suspension units.... Big Cry

You can also try this in normal and entry modes and see if you get a different result. If you do I'm lead to believe this would indicate a leak/hole in the air spring casing somewhere which only becomes apparent at a certain suspension height.

thanks for the advice, i have got it booked back in with the dealer that sold it to me , i had the balancing done today on it as i was getting a vibration at 70mph, its come back with 2 x slightly buckled wheels, 1 x tyre on the legal limit, 1 x tyre is a pirelli PZ zero and the others are pirelli scorpion Zero's, plus all the wheel nuts have expanded due to corrosion.and the spare is a 19" tyre compared to 20" on the rest of the car.
they said the different tyre pattern on the PZ Zero could lead to transmission issues?

spoke to the dealer who said balancing them should remove the slight buckle? and that the 19" spare is normal as this is the standard size for the spare?
he also said the odd tyre wont give any issues with the transmission.
its booked in Monday for the above and also to look at the suspension.

not what i expected after 2 x weeks of ownership and 21K lighter in my pocket.

19 is a standard spare wheel on our cars. Just get the dealer to sort all your issues out or get a refund and buy another one. Good luck and keep us posted.

Balancing won't remove the buckle but it might reduce the symptoms experienced - the steering wheel vibration. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

thanks for the replies,

the report from the garage says slight buckle in both front and rear nearside, balancing them may had cured it, not had chance to test it out as yet as i'm still in work.
thought it was strange him saying about the transmission issue with as both tyres are exactly the same size just a different tread pattern.

It is possible for different makes of tyre to be different sizes even though they are of the same size classification according to the sidewall info. As both of your tyres are from Pirelli, it's likely that they'll be close enough not to be a problem. Look elsewhere on the forum for a picture of two tyres that are the same size classification but obviously very different in actual size.

Edit: Here is the other thread about differing sized tyres
