Stablity Problem

My RRS is more unstable than I think it ought to be. I was driving along a 2 mile straight siiting at 60mph when the near side of the vehicle hit a slightly lower area of road. In other cars that I drive you would feel the lower area on the road but the motion of the car would not be affected. On this occasion the vehicle stepped out towards the centre line of the road (the driver of a vehicle coming in the opposite direction must have wondered what was going on).

What is going on? I have had it to the garage and although some wear on the bushes of the rear arms was noted it was deemed not enough to cause what happened. The car has 22" wheels (were on the car when I bought it). I have reduced the tyre pressures and this has helped a bit but it still feels a bit erratic if you hit an undulation in the road. The mechanic figures it is a combination of slight wear in rear bushes, tyre pressures too hard (now lowered to 34/30) and wide wheels.

Any other ideas - Would standard 19" wheels help?

My 2006 is the same, I've had it checked and it's all good so I guess it is one of those RRS peculiarities

22" wheels tend to be wider, and will be a lower profile than standard sizes, and as such, will pull, and tramline more than those on 19"-20" wheels

Any play in suspension bushes will also affect it.

That, and some of the roads up in Scotland can be pretty shocking...

If you have access to another set of wheels, I would try them first Thumbs Up

I had a similar problem the back would step out slightly at 30mph on local roads whilst going over a small bump or little ditch in the road. Had the alignment done all sorted now. Maybe worth while getting that checked first maybe.

Yes, on occasions that is what it can do.

Tram lining – Yes, that is what it can do.

The wheels were aligned just before I bought it. I reckon I might need to bite the bullet and try some 19’s. I can always sell them on if it doesn’t improve things.
