That was my point regarding securing the rear lights too but I suppose with the rears you might look to see the screws first. Personally I think if you have the facelift you should maybe screw the light and grill down. The cost of replacement lights and grill will be more than a bonnet repair that's if you were unlucky and got targeted. That won't stop them popping the window up release the bonnet though. Maybe you have to do what security you think is right and take your chance. Sparky is right tho, some people who didn't know how easy it is will now know how easy it is. Maybe delete the thread and start a prevention thread? |

Also think things like the ebay find would have been much better placed in a PM, this might have stopped the ebay listing being ended early due to a possible tip off from the forum if a thief is reading on here that somebody was onto him, which in turn could have led to the recovery or a conviction, instead of him shifting the stuff to his mates garage and waiting a couple of months before relisting it. |

At the same time we have also made many members aware that this is going on, and they might think twice about where they park their vehicles in future. Just look at the response we have had from people requesting security screws for the rear lights, then another member will post on a different thread saying they have just had their rear lights stolen and not seen the original topic about the thefts. Same applies with the spare wheel. How do we make members aware of such thefts if not posting on here I try not to post details of how its done but anyone with a sport can see exactly how its done. By a all means start another thread.

There is always going to be a fine line between providing useful information for members and the same information being used for immoral purposes.

And that's why they get nicked and sold on ebay. Ebay is just an electronic car boot sale and just like actual car boot sales, lots of nicked stuff gets sold there. The problem for RRS owners is that the vehilces are now in the price range of people who can buy them (just) but can't afford to maintain them because parts are at premium price levels. These people will happily buy nicked stuff off ebay because it's the only way they can afford to fix their vehicle. That, along with the desire to modify their RRS to try to make it look newer, helps to drive the trade in these parts (lights, grills etc.). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Hence my post above suggesting that car manufacturers should start to take some responsibility in helping prevent the illegal trade of their overpriced parts |

In fairness to LR this is a relatively new problem and actually still reasonably rare. I remember the uproar when some new cars were produced a few years ago that needed a dealer to change the bulb because the lights were so difficult to remove. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. What's needed is a justice system that properly punishes theft (and assault, rape and murder while we're at it). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

^^^ It doesn't take a rocket scientist to design alight that can be moderately accessible from under the hood or inside the boot but not easily removed from the outside.
