Could be someone has cut a hole in the floor so that you can winch the spare wheel down without unloading the whole luggage space to get at the winch. If so presumably they kept the jack and tools inside the car too. If the rubber grommet is missing over the winch nut you may get some water in if you go wading. |

I"m hoping it is this, a lazy person who cut a hole in the floor to winch the spare wheel down. I will check it out tonight Cheers |

If it was properly done with a neatly plugged hole just big enough for the winch winding tool to go through (not a size big enough for a rat!) it is a very good idea for those times when the car is stuffed full of holiday luggage or things you would not want to have to unload and stack at the side of the motorway out in the pouring rain just to be able to lift the floor to get at the winch if there is a puncture. |
