When I had a SC at 155 there was a really loud whining noise and it was explained as some wind deflator, baffle or something that because the car was preproduction it wasn't fitted/working properly.

This may not be your problem...but it definitely does 155 Mike

Did you check it wasn't your passenger making the whining noise? Laughing 2014 MY RRS HSE Dynamic

And is it limited to that speed, 250kph, same as is widely used in Mercedes? Mark

Mark,

As mine is a very early SC (June 2013) is it possible that you can expand a bit on your observation, as this might be the case with my car.

Wasn't there a recall to do with the front wheel arch liners or something? Maybe this.

I took it to Guy Salmon this afternoon. They were clueless and further told me that there was no way that they could test this at warp speeds. I will now call a dealer in Germany and see whether they have had same problem.

It is a loud whine (not a hiss) so unlikely to be aircon/ventilation caused. Supercharger belt could be a good clue. Initially I mistook it for being a sort of built in high speed alarm but there is no such thing.

So the LR dealer is being characteristically useless. However, your contract is with them, so they should at least be able to get some guidance from LR where there will at least be some experience of driving the car at higher speed. It is a pity you couldn't get an audio recording; that was the way I solved a fuel pump problem with my SL55 AMG.

Incidentally, when you brought it back from Germany, did you come on Eurotunnel and if you did, did you use the normal car coaches or the ones designed for cars with roof racks which have usefully extra width between the wheel damaging kerbs. Mark

I used the roof rack option - so no problem with width.

Yes, I think that's the best by far. I'm asked from time to time by the Eurotunnel JobsWorths why I booked that way when I turn up in something which doesn't need the height and they get a flea in their ears. Mark

You actually don't need to book the roof rack option. When you approach the 1.85 barrier there is an escape route for cars higher than 1:85 and you simply take that route and that will automatically put you in one of the high carriages.

True but I had my fingers burned when I turned up without booking and found they were fully booked in the tall coaches so had to wait. I also wonder whether every train has tall coaches. Mark

I got my car back from Guy Salmon service today where it had been in for the whining noise at 135 mph. There is a service bulletin out saying that it is due to the windscreen/roof seal which has now been changed on my car. Obviously i have not had a chance to check it but GS was quite adamant that this was the solution to the problem.

Good info! Does that mean the dealers are going to road test every new RRS at 135mph before deciding whether to renew the seal? Laughing Laughing

Mine is an early SC (June 2013) so my guess is that later cars have this sorted already.
