What an episode....failed Alternator

After previosly creating a few posts about aquiring a new battery, yesterday turned out to be a complete nightmare....bear with me for my story.....

So i leave the house at 10am. 2006 sc starts a lil slow but i think thats understandable cos ive not moved it in 6 days.
I drive into lpool and on my was back on the motorway i put my foot down slightly to overtake a Disco Wink but embaressingly theres no power and i have to pull back in Embarassed

Seconds later red suspension light followed by red battery light so i pull on to the hard shoulder at the base of an exit slip way.

Now the one day i happen to leave my phone at home on charge is today Censored but i see a sos phone 100metres up so i get out an run to that.....doesnt work Censored Censored

Now heres were i have to make decision and ill let u decide which one i did as i found out later i could of got into a lot of trouble for one of them....
So i could of kept goin up the motorway every half a mile to find a working sos phone or.....i could run up the slip road into the nearest town, get a butty wagon women to ring me a taxi to take me home to collect my phone and a mate to take me back to my car Whistle
Then i ring the AA who possibly may of had a go at me for leaving the car and i possibly may of replied with what the Censored was i meant to do, what ever option i chose i had to leave the car or sit in it all day an possibly all night....

Anyway by the time an AA man turned up there was no power to get the EPB off and out of park, he then wanted to shut a lane of the motorway in order to work on this Embarassed

After this i was towed home and waited for another guy to come an diagnose the Alternator at fault an then had to wait for another guy to tow me to a garage. My AA cover covers parts and repair upto £500 however garage guy says he done one the other day for £700 Neutral

So that is my story of leavin the house at 10am and returning at 5pm....sorry for the long winded episode but its been quite therapeutic to offload it

Still, it could have been worse Shocked
The police could have towed your unattended car away and charged you for the pleasure of it. Twisted Evil
At least you've learnt one thing in all this..... Never leave your phone at home whilst out in your sport. Banging Head
Pleased you eventually got it sorted.

I have a 'power saver' unit for a Black view and I'm thinking I might use the same feeds and invest and install a simple digital voltmeter somewhere discrete then at least IF (or when!!) anything strange happens it could give an instant insight to the cause !

funny the aa don't know how to get the park brake off...it wouldn't be the first time ive had to tell the aa how to deal with a handbrake (after an operation when I had a 90 with seized brake but couldn't do the work myself) Mike

That's what I paid including VAT on my old Disco approx 12 months ago. OEM Denso unit, so a proper job. Would have thought its very similar, unless the sc's have something trick ?

Flydive, thats good to know for future reference. Havin only owned it for 6 weeks i havnt quite learnt all the nifty tips an tricks yet....the £700 price tag is what they charged for a diesel sport, not sure which one, so he was just warning me....ive done a little research and there does seem to be some people out there who have had similar charges....im goin to ask for the details of the Alt if they try to over charge

I just changed mates V6 alternator, about an hour start to finish and £220 inc vat for denso unit from euro car parts. Only thing you need is a 36mm spanner over and above normal socket set. Thumbs Up can't believe V8 will be much different 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

N/A 4.4 V8 is a doddle to fit Thumbs Up

S/C is more awkward and fiddly...
