Mine is very easy to open - just press the button on key or tailgate

Yep, mine is very heavy, I assumed it was normal as well although I did wonder at one point whether it was supposed to have a motor drive on it.

External temperature also alters the ease of which the manual tailgates can be opened...on a cold day they require a bit of a shove to move upwards and downwards. |

I had an issue with my rams which usually meant I banged my head on tail gate as it wouldn't open fully unless pushed the last few inches. At no point was it ever heavy, once released it opened without any input from me. Once rams were replaced, it opened fully with gentle tug and no input from me and closed with a little pressure.

IIRC my first sport had one arm under warranty - you may not need both Less of an issue if dealer paying or in warranty.... |

mine opens with very little effort, once the latch is released hardly any assistance required, i even tend to hold on to it so it doesn't open too quickly. 2010 RRS, TDV8
