Used it in my previous RRS for over a year with no problems. It felt a lot smoother and responsive to drive, and I noticed an increase in MPG. Thumbs Up 2014 L405 SDV8 RR Autobiography Cool

Just like miracle cures for the common cold this discussion keeps running yet there is absolutely no scientific evidence from any international proper engine test lab to back up any of the claims.

If you want a quiet engine fill with Hypo 90 diff oil but don't expect it to last long !

Unless you are in a country with poor quality fuel you are wasting your time and money.

In the UK you only need to use a good quality fuel - treat it to a 'super' diesel every 5/6 tank-fulls.

If your car has a DPF you'll shorten the cycle time between regenerations.

Well is a forum, people bringing their experience.

A bit like "which is the best winter/summer tyre", etc. '08 RRS TDV8
I converted my diesel RRS to run on an environmentally friendly mixture of caribou fat and baby seals oil

Hi

there is also a long long long long long thread on the D3 site as well

think you have to have a read of as much info as you can on the forum and web and then make your own mind up Confused

there is evidence of parts being stripped down and being in better nick than expected when running 2sO
but is it down to the 2sO or not...... you will have to read a lot of the stuff and decide yourself

it does all go on a bit Whistle

happy reading Thumbs Up Porsche Cayenne 2022

^^^ You're absolutely right people will do what they like - see the evidence on what smoking does for a person health !

But just because there's a lot said doesn't make it right.

"think you have to have a read of as much info as you can on the forum and web and then make your own mind up Confused

You say there's "evidence" but whose? - actually 'tis all anecdote.

Adding 2-stroke to fuel is out of date rubbish. Old diesel engine used crude 'in-line' or 'rotary' pumps with mechanical injectors and were low revving; a small amount of 2-stroke often helped these pumps maintain injection pressures when they were worn.

Modern diesels are hi-revving units fed with fuel from precision electronic peizo injectors in order to get fine atomised droplets via precision hi-rail pressure pumps, these are worlds apart from their ancestors .

2-stroke oil is designed for a completely different engine temperature range - surface and combustion.

Just to make it a risky course to follow car makers are very careful to diagnose why their engines fail because they are usually a 'bought-in' and they can reclaim from suppliers if manufacturing specs are not met.

Therefore warranty failures are examined and oil is analysed; if the car is covered by a warranty be warned - we've already seen some of the Forum's members experiencing £6k crankshaft+ failures (not saying these have anything to do with 2-stroke oil) so the stakes can be high.

I just want fellow members to fully understand what they doing so I'll stick to my guns and maintain, and as a pretty highly qualified automotive design engineer (if you want to know - BSc, MSc, PhD) that the best way to protect your investment is - feed it good fuel, use hi-quality oil, filters and keep it serviced. Don't thrash it until it is up to operating temperature and always let it idle for a few seconds before shutting down.

Don't be swayed by the number or length of subjective stories and please ignore the anecdotal myths.

But, ultimately the choice is always yours Thumbs Up

Hi Drdelrrs

guessing this is why the treads are sooooooooo long, different views and thoughts, but some where in there seem to remember a strip down had been done. no can not remember what parts Rolling Eyes and I don't fancy reading through them to be honest.

I have all on keeping up with new threads Thumbs Up

BIG debate, one item that pops up is "Do Not Use Synthetic 2T"
However if you read back to the start of the thread in the Freebe Forum, Yamaha-Fan only said use the cheapest 2T you can find, plus she herself stated that she uses Semi Synthetic, so I see no reason why you can not use synthetic 2T.

I sure someone will be along to correct me. Thumbs Up In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

We are not alking about a political debate of opinions, this is an engineering issue of scientific fact. Your yamaha-fan may have said a lot but where are the facts and the qualifications of those with the opinions.

If you were learning to fly who would you pick to teach you , a qualified experienced pilot or someone who had written on the web?

i asked and asked and asked for proof, Yamaha Fan could not provide any due to her role at work (legal something or other) where she was allegedly getting this information from, but she stated that these facts were true and got very snotty when you questioned her information Laughing

I waited and waited for the fact to be released and asked a few more times and even had to have the thread taken off view to be cleaned up as there was so many people asking for proof and people giving their opinion on what they had heard, but no facts

One time she stated that the proof was released by a car company, i can't recall which, but again not an ounce of proof was found when we went searching the cars most upto date manuals where she said it would be. She would never reply to say why it was not there Confused i wonder why Idea

The only proof is hearsay (people talking, not the band, though i might have believed is Mylene Klass whispered in my ear naked), people put it in there tank and nothing bad happens, but who says there is any good happening Disco_George showed numerous pictures of bits of engine, which were supposedly in such a great condition due to 2SO after a Disco2 have driven to the moon and back, but nobody to this day has provided any hard facts to back any of it up.

I have tried it, in my old FL2, i found it was a waste of time, no mpg reduction, the engine still sounded like a engine and it was faffing around measuring 300ml of 2so in to a bottle and pouring it in the the tank each fill up for no gain.

They keep going on about how it will prolong the engine, but since most people swap every few years, your messing about for some bloke who is going to be owning your car in 10+ years time, and only if, the next how ever many owners keep up with adding the wonder elixir called 2SO and if it actually does make the so called difference Thumbs Up

#wasteoftime Smile

As said so eloquently by drdelrrs, use good fuel, decent oil and filters and service it properly.

Until someone brings properly documented evidence of 2so benefit it's all just so much talk. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I use snake oil in my tank and the increase in fuel consumption and performance is out of this world.
