HELP!! EGR valve replacement - Torx screw

Afternoon all

In the process of replacing the EGR valve on the nearside, but I've spent the last 2 hours trying to get the final torx screw out (the one nearest the engine block). I can't get enough space to get my socket onto it, I broke my bendy screwdriver trying to turn it, can't find anywhere that sells 6.5mm spanners so that I could stick a screwdriver bit on it & turn it that way, getting close to giving up (on the final bolt!), putting it back together and letting the stealers have their wicked way with me Big Cry

Anyone got any bright ideas they could share?

Cheers in advance Bow down

I take it you've undone the three longer bolts holding the EGR to the engine block? If not, undo those and access is easier with a bit of leverage.

Once it's off, many people use a hex head bolt instead as it's easier for next time. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Hi Bodsy

Thanks for the reply - all the other bolts are out, just this one torx bolt left. I've started undoing the EGR cooler bolts to give it a bit more wiggle room & have invested in a new flexible extension for the screwdriver.

Round 2 tomorrow... Rolling Eyes

Ps. Whilst you're here, thanks muchly for your brake Bible, cyber pint en route Thumbs Up

With one of the bolts already out, I've managed to turn the valve which has loosened the bolt in the past. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Hi Bodsy

I did in the end - combination of wiggling the valve (as you suggested), taking off the top, plastic part to give myself a bit more room, and buying a 1/4 socket wrench with a very narrow head to get access.

Having done all that, I then found that Andrew Page had sold me a pre-07 valve, so had a stressful time trying to find a parts dealer open on a Saturday afternoon - Euro Parts are now in my good books Mr. Green

Bad news is that I traded it in for a Ford Focus today, have had enough of random & expensive things going wrong with it, plus it's due a service & road tax in the next month which will cost the best part of £1k, so I've baled out. Will miss the comfort & driving position, won't miss the fear of expensiveness every time something crops up.

Thanks again for your advice, much appreciated Thumbs Up
