Was there a reference to a second deposit/stage payment in the terms of sale/purchase you entered into?

If not then ask them why they are changing the conditions of sale.

As mentioned by others, always use a CC for deposit payments for added security

unless your paperwork say £5k deposit prior to collection, I don't see how they can now ask for more

The only time I have ever heard of a larger than normal deposit being required was when the car had an unusual spec be that colour etc.

Yes I have changed the spec several times. Its red with ebony ivory so nothing unusual.

I sent a polite email suggesting they hadn't mentioned it before and they apologised for failing to mention it and said they would stick with the £1000 - All good

As someone else pointed out it may be a case of cash flow. They don't get paid until the car is delivered and could have hundreds of cars on order so asking 100 people for a bigger deposit brings in a big chunk of money and helps them pay the wages and run their business. I don't have a problem with it but just found it unusual. Perhaps someone in the know will tell us why.

My dealer also asked for £5k when I placed my order in August.
I paid £500

The car is now out of build and agreed pick up date is March 1st.
Full payment for the car was dealt with yesterday.

From what I heard a lot of dealers were asking a £5k deposit on the new sport.
Many dealers probably wouldn't accept £500, but this is out third RR from them so they kept quiet.

Besides, the wait of a good spec RRS HSE Dynamic with Pana sunroof and lots of other good stuff is so long now they can probably sell this in an instant if I had decided to back out. Current...

Just put myself into the system and ordered a HSE in Mariana black, paid £1000 with the balance of 5% of total to be paid at final spec time ( minus the original 1k ), on the plus side was able to take out the supercharged for a quick spin safe to say the radio was not turned on  2015 HSE SDV6 Scotia Grey, ebony / lunar, colour coded, deployable steps, TV, sliding pano and a few other bits. Now gone

Haven't turned mine on yet!! 5.0 Ltr Superchrged RRS2, Chile Red, Sideways out of junctions!
