2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Maya Gold

TYRE WEAR PROBLEM

I have a 2006 Sport. The tyres have only done 10/15,000 miles approx and they are all badly worn on the inside tread and causing a winning noise. I have taken the car to our local RR Dealer (In France) and they cannot see any cause i.e. no problems with bearings etc. I always keep the pressures to exactly what they should be and drive carefully. The RR Dealer thinks the cause might be faulty tyres?!? They are Continentals and the ones recommended for my model. Any ideas as to the problem. Andrew Kennedy

I presume they checked wheel geometry?
Conti's are good tyres, and I can't see why they would just wear on the inside unless your scrubbing them due to bad alignment.

Agreed. A four-wheel alignment check is called for. Ideally, the alignment should be checked off a datum on the chassis, otherwise, it is possible for the wheels on an axle to be aligned with each other, but not with the chassis (eg steering not in the neutral position when going straight), causing the car to go crabwise.

If the tyresare knackered, ideally the alignment should be done with the new tyres fitted.

Hi there Paul. Many thanks for getting in touch re my tyres. I haven’t had the wheels geometry, but I will when I return to the UK. The car is on its second set of tyres and the present ones have only been on for 10/15,000 miles (no problems with the first set), however, I have been towing a light weight caravan although I do keep the back pressures up when towing – I don’t take much notice of ‘nose weight’ - could that we causing a problem?!? When I purchased the present tyres I looked round for the best deal – are there inferior tyres on the market that I could have got fobbed off with? What do you think? Andrew Andrew Kennedy

Too much load at the rear when towing, can cause negative camber,this will also lift the front causing unnatural wear .
Make sure you get load correct ,it also stops snaking.

Thanks Paul. I will check nose weight in future. In live in France and the local RR garrage feels my problem could be faulty types?!? Is it possible I could have been sold inferior types i.e. they have Continental on the side walls but are they the real deal. Andrew Kennedy
