i have a weird sound, which is there for more than 50000km, so not a big deal but enough to ask here if someone experienced it also...

HSE tdv6 engine 250000Mkm from 2005.
sound comes from the engine left side, a metalic noise occuring at constant rpm, around 2000rpm
it sounds like a "metalic sheet of metal" vibrating (constant rpm, no torque applied to transmission) it stops when i accelerate or release the throttle...

on the other hand, it could also be attributed to a long "psshhhiiiiiiiit" given by a turbocharger blow-off valve...like a air leak generating a long psshhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiii during the period of time the turbo is not under load.... but this noise can stay for kilometers so i use to switch to next gear by accelerating a little bit more...

an other image of this weird noise could be a hydraulic cavitation of a steering wheel oil pump or auto gear box due to lack of liquid but both level have been inspected and OK....

not easy to describe a noise... but have you ever experienced such a whooshing noise?

i've also heard a long "psshhhiiiiiiiit" noise but that's usually coming from the bathroom, given by a blow-off that resulted in a follow-through

looks like related to these links, there is 2 different topics.

One is vibrations generated in steering wheel throught the steering rack under acceleration at 2000rpm.
known but never fixed, and it is not what i tried to describe on mine.

other could be mine strange noise, as you wrote, humming noise at constant rpm around 1800-2000rpm also...
- this one could comes from resonance torque converter which could be that.... or a heat insulation metal sheet vibrating but never identified by anyone...
- and other option as i saw in disco forum after submitting my request, could be egr valves (blanked on mine) but can still being noisy somewhere when turbocharger is not sollicitated....

and i learnt that blow-off valves do not exist on tvd6 engine (only on petrol TC like on my past audi TT)

bottom line looks familar to others, but no clear fix identified, even through several pro diagnostics
