I have been to the Excel centre today for a trade show. Its the first time I have been, and I wanted to say how I didn't like the venue at all. The signage, parking, facilities and prices are all awful - I couldn't believe how disorganised the whole facility was.

Story of my day.

After driving for 4.5hours from the midlands to London, we came in on the A13 (from memory) and headed for the Docklands expecting to see some signage for the EXCEL Centre - however there were none. Finally, after 10 minutes driving around and making two key mistakes we came up to the main entrance of the centre - we then looked for any signage for excel centre parking - but nothing Confused - asked a security guy who was directing traffic, who looked at us all confused said 'just park in the NCP car park' - at this point we started to realise 'we should already know all this of course'

We parked in the West NCP multi storey which had no apparent security at all - when we returned to the car park, none of the pay machines were in operation - a sign told us to go to West Boulevard (which doesn't exist by the way). So after looking around for a few minutes at the non existant sign posts, we walked back to the excel centre building - we found some NCP pay machines with 'East Car Park' indication on it just inside the entrance. To be sure it was ok to use these machines for the West Car Park I asked the information desk - they really didn't have a clue, however advised they dont believe there are any other machines, so we should be ok. So, paid the £14.10 Shocked for 2.5 hours parking and walked back to the carpark - got to the exit - entered the ticket - yep, you guessed it - ticket was invalid and it swallowed it Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad - got through to an NCP person after a couple of mins who basically didn't believe I had paid, until I got very annoyed and told them to come down to me and take a look at the payment receipt I had in my hand - all of a sudden the gate opens

(At this point, a RRS was in the exit next to us - Silver - anyone on here?)

So, after paying £28 for entry tickets, £65 in fuel, £12.50 for lunch, £14.10 for parking and spending 8 hours driving I can conclude I am not impressed with the Excel centre at all - IMHO the NEC facilities in B'ham are far better Laughing

I would imagine additional signs would be put up for the Motorshow Confused - I really hope so anyway. Its actually pretty easy to get to the Docklands area by car, however the signage over the last 2 miles to the EXCEL Centre itself is woeful.

Not sure about taxis really - sorry - but I would seriously consider it on the day myself if I was staying some distance away - we're staying in the Boat Hotel thingy which is right next to the Centre - so we will be walking to the Show in July Laughing

What day are you going Fi?
