Agree it could be something to do with a failing alternator but you could try some simpler things first.

it only died the once, battery light came on the way to work and on the way home from work but then she came to a t juncton to turn rght, within a splitt second pulling off it cut out, everything went off, no power nothing, she did try a few attempts to start but there were no ignition lights and couldnt even put on the hazards, AA man looked under bonnet di nothing then he turned the key and then it started he was confused as we were, he couldnt see a fault, anyway he sent her on her journey home wthout any problems its just so strange i have read on these rr forums and a few have related this as faulty diodes or some sort in the alternator, i just want a bit more clue on this before i buy a new alternator |

Correct me if I am wrong but if the car stops for whatever reason & is left in `D` does that not cut out all power ? Im away from the Sport at the moment so can not confirm - but Mrs Peach has called me once or twice to say the cars dead - wont start -it has been left in `D` or `R `. I appreciate this does not solve the original problem but we all panic when the motor suddenly chimes or flashes up a fault.

I agree. If the car was left in D and the AA man moves it to P then tries starting it, that would explain how it then worked for him. But not why it stopped in the first place! I would say poss alternator... 2013 RRS SDV6 Autobiography Fuji White

That would only stop it from starting, you would still get ign lights and hazards would always work.

I had a similar issue after changing the battery and the car was completely dead. Turned out that although the terminals on the battery were tightened, the positive wasn't pushed down far enough. A gentle knock with a hammer and all was well. Worth a go |

If it was the alternator, then the battery would run itself down to nothing, it would not restart, im betting loose terminal.
