It all depends on the location/age group etc. Having recently renewed my insurance, I tried to get a quote from A-Plan after seeing this thread as I was still within the cooling off period. The gentleman I spoke to was very helpful and didn't want to waste my time by going through all the details and first asked me how much I paid the current insurer. When I told him my premium (which isn't low IMHO) he told me straightaway he wouldn't be able to quote anywhere near that so we ended the conversation there.

I am sure it works out cheaper and/or provides better cover to other drivers. Not for me unfortunately.

Had an enjoyable experience dealing with Steve today, kept me informed throughout the process and was VERY cost effective in comparison to my current insurer and comparison websites, highly recommended

Although I recently renewed my insurance, I changed car recently and tried to get a quote from A-Plan again via PM. The idea was to cancel my current insurance and move to A-Plan if good.

Steve was away and he asked Martin to tell me to contact someone else by phone. I did that and after taking my details I was asked to wait for a phone call with a quote. Got nothing so I phoned back a day or two later to be informed that due to the value of the car, a specialist department should have contacted me. Was told the said department will be asked to contact me again. Still no phone call or voicemail. Not impressed

Oh dear, not what i was wanting to hear fkarim. Lets see if A plan respond on here with an explanation.

Yeah I'd be interested to see what I got, mines due in February also, customer service is a big deal too, keep us posted on your outcome fkarim.

I also got a decent quote yesterday which was higher than my current premium but I was happy to pay a bit extra for better cover. Unfortunately that particular policy also required a tracker (not all of A-Plan policies/insurers do I think) and after adding admin charges etc. from my current insurer (as I had already made changes to my existing policy due to earlier issues) it was becoming a bit too much extra cost for me to justify.

Looks promising for next year though

Also, really pleased with the way Steve took prompt action to get things going as soon as he became aware of my less than satisfactory experience. Definitely a positive indicator for level of customer service to expect
