auto wipers mind of there own

Does anybody else's auto wipers have a mind of there own. after being back to the dealers and getting a new sensor put in mine often come on and stay on when its not raining but do sometimes work properly.

If i adjust the speed setting it seems to over ride the auto setting and keep working at that speed if its raining or not, and if i knock it off auto and back on it just does the same. If its been turned off and back off it seems to set itself back to auto until i touch the speed setting.

Is this normal ?

I have to admit that I don't like the auto wipers. They seem to work independantly of anything else; rain, speed, setting.
They also appear to be speed sensitive which is a real pain around 30mph, where they don't wipe until you can barely see, then they wipe well after the screen is dry and clear. The column sensitivity setting doesn't make much difference either at this sort of speed.

My previous freelander2 was the same random operation. With the Freel you could remove a fuse to disable the auto setting which then made that position on the wiper stalk work as an intermittent wiper, the stalk adjuster changed the frequency of the wipe. Does anyone know if it is possible to do the same with the RRS?

I'd happily disable the auto setting if I could. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

I hate auto wipers. They have a mind of their own - sometimes they go to full speed in a light drizzle and other times they do intermittent in a downpour. I wondered if disconnecting the optical sensor on the screen would make them act like proper wipers again but I don't want to end up with no wipers at all!

I prefer to use Rain-X and just give the wipers a flick now and then manually. Must get around to getting some of the GTECH stuff for screens. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Same with mine, i find them totally useless. Sometimes they are too fast, too slow or just don't come on at all. Banging Head

The wipers in my Merc Sprinter van work brilliantly as did the wipers in my previous merc C-class. 2014 L405 SDV8 RR Autobiography Cool

Auto replaces the old intermittent setting though. So you either have them "off", "auto", "wipe", "fast wipe". I much prefer an adjustable intermittent setting in place of auto.

I usually end up manually flicking the single wipe now and then. Auto wipe is another luxury feature that is pointless - just like auto lights. Why people need the vehicle to decide when they need the lights on is beyond me - surely you know when it's too dark? At least auto lights can be bypassed without losing the overall light functionality. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Agreed, RRS auto wipers are crapola. They should ask BMW to help them. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
