Thinking of going back to Windows!

After conversion to apple some years ago I am having regrets Big Cry

Recent updates have decimated my iPad2, Mac mini and MacBook Pro - safari in particular freezes constantly on the macs and crashes completely on iPad Evil or Very Mad

I have to run parallels for accounts and payroll which slows things down too so I've had enough and want to know if anyone has an Acer Iconia W510 or Microsoft Surface Pro 2 as these are both which best buys and considering them as replacements for mainly accounts, payroll and office Bow down

My airport time capsule spends all day backing up and slows down the mac to a crawl Banging Head

Steve Jobs must be turning in his grave Sad

My eldest son is doing a BSc in Computer Science and wants me to get the Pro2 but I think it's because he wants to nick it - sorry borrow it Rolling Eyes

Any advice welcome Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Muddy I have been Mac for 3 years now. Never looked back. I think you should purchase Mac Keeper, it keeps my Mac fast and clean. For backup I just use a 2tB passport disc plugged into USB.

I had an un scheduled swim in the Swan River last week. I bought a new iPhone 5S and within 10 minutes of plugging it in and backing up from my Mac, I had everything back including my apps and icons in the same place on the screen, my calls, texts and even my alarm was set for the same time. Cheers Bow down

Giving Firefox a shot Thumbs Up

Bought an Imac first and thought it was great so when SWMBO nicked it for work I got a Macbook Pro and it was great (could close lid and go back anytime and carry on - could never do that with windows) then mini mac to get multi media on tv/surround sound followed by an Ipad 2 so spent a small fortune but only the Imac is behaving now Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Ditch MAC in a heart beat. Apple really haven't made a good product...ever - they have some good design and build some great stuff for editing and idiots (more referencing the computer for idots books) but actually Apple's only real success is that they control every element, something that a computer running Linux, Windows etc doesn't do by allowing many manufacturers and hardware.

The surface is great, I really like it - if 2 apps I have were available on the Windows 8, bye bye IPAD hello surface - I recommended and helped a couple of friends to get them and they love it. Add the keyboard case and you have a mini laptop effectively but a great tablet

Ive recently (although I have an android phone) ditched Chrome, ive had enough of google thinking it knows what I want, linking too many things, and making networks I don't want networks made. Very soon ill remove anything I can from a google server. Mike

Firefox looking good Thumbs Up

Have cloned my Mac on an external drive for now and erased then restored the Macbook Pro and seems to be working like it used to - for the time being I intend to boot the external drive for accounts and payroll Confused

I think Parallels may be the problem so any recommendations for MAC payroll and accounts welcome so I can keep it simple - currently on Sage Payroll and Quicken accounts so ideally would like to be able to import Bow down

Just forked out for alloys/winter tyres and swmbo been christmas shopping so a new computer is unlikely right now Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I use a cheap PC to do sage payroll and accounts.
Keeps the macs free from parallels.
Back everything up to a nas box.
Works well for me.
I agree with you about Macs, the latest OSX is a pile of c**p. MY13.5 Autobiography, Santorini Black, Privacy Glass. Gone

I would never switch back to Windows, if only for software for work. I will not go into the details, but trust me Apple's software is a very solid piece of work. Occasionally, there will always be issues (same as with LR cars lemons), but to a far lesser extent compared to Windows.
Upgrading 3-4 years old hardware to today's software is never a good idea as the old iPads were not built for today's new iOS - I think it makes perfect sense. Think 10 years back... people would upgrade their PC's every 3-4 years because of the new technological advances, new graphic cards etc which were not compatible with the old PC's. The same goes with Apple, iPads built 2-3 years ago will have problems (i.e. will slow down in performance) when running the most up to date software. Vadim A.

I love my PC, tried a friends Mac and although it was good, I didn't see the point in spending over double for something that was "ok".

I currently have an iPad 3, and whilst I like it, it is often freezing and lagging. It will soon be replaced by a Samsung tablet to match my Samsung Galaxy S3 (which I love).

A friend of mine has a Surface 2, it's brilliant! He got fed up with his iPad and iPhone and he loves it! I would love one for work. It would be a great replacement for a laptop as it's so light and portable but still very capable.

Apple are good but now other manufacturers have caught up IMO. Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... Twisted Evil

Gone but not forgotten:

I agree apple are expensive but I have had the pro coming up for 3 years and it looks as though the issue is parallels and the time capsule slowing it down - although I did drop it 2 years ago and wondered if it might be the hard drive Embarassed

It seems to be working ok now I reset it Bow down

The 27" iMac is 4 year old and still works like it did the day I got it Bow down

PC stuff is cheaper but I used to replace it more often - windows 3.1? 95, 98, me, then xp because they never worked properly in the first place not just after a while and if they were allowed to sleep they crashed and had to be restarted - never had an issue with apple like this. They also slowed down to a crawl after about a year of using and updates Rolling Eyes

Networking mac has also been easier and more reliable Thumbs Up

My mistake is trying to keep a foot in both systems with parallels/PC for business and mac for everything else Rolling Eyes

Searching online sage and intuit offer online accounts and payroll for mac from £15 a month which is about what I pay now for sage payroll with support so might be the answer - I have a 3 year warranty on pro until March so might get it checked incase the hard drive is going because I can not afford to lose my files Sad

The iPad2 is goosed though by the latest iOS and Apple should allow rollback but don't so I am a bit miffed with them over that and the lack of flash Evil or Very Mad

Might look at a new tablet after Xmas but probably not another iPad now others have caught up Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Use Boot Camp

Hey there,

I need to use some windows tools on my imac and hated parallels. If you have an intel mac simply use Boot Camp

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1461

You then get native speeds on your mac when needed (not emulated) and I have had no issues whatsoever when booted into Windows 7 64bit

Never used a Mac for about 12 years - very happy with PC. I have an Asus, which is pretty good.

Firefox I find to be a bit buggy these days. Often if I have more than 6 tabs/windows open, it crashes. Like Chrome though -fast to load and bug-free.

I think Mac computers are great, but mainly for the use of creative programs to edit music or images. If you stick to office and such Windows is a better option yeah.
