NSF "Squeaking" after turing off the engine

I'm getting a squeak squeak squeak noise from the front left of the car that carries on for approx 10 seconds after the engine is turned off (probably squeaking all the time but with the engine going it's being drowned out)

Is this some kind of pulley bearing or belt getting tired? RRS gone

Decided to resurrect this thread as my RRS also appears to have developed this intermittent squeak.

Anyone have any ideas what it could be or do I have a budgie living under the bonnet?

It doesn't appear to make the noise when the engine is running.

What you might find it to be is the variable vane turbo actuators cycling, they do it every time the ignition is turned on and off about 5 times each if memory is correct.
It could be you have one going dry and making the noise, the passenger side is the common one to stick first...mine did the same thing Thumbs Up 08 RRS TDV8 stornoway grey.

Well if its the actuator rod joints then yes there's a diy and dealer fix, if its the EGR valves as awd man suggested then no quick diy fix, but they can be replaced.

As for the rods its a case of getting underneath removing the engine undertray and locating the servo motors on the turbos, (there about as round as a coke can and about a third as long)

One thing you can try to locate them, if there not seized, is get someone to cycle the ignition while you look underneath with a torch you should see the rods moving back and forth about an inch they are difficult to spot though.

What you need to then do is lubricate the ball joint on the end of each rod..one per turbo...the easiest way I found was to get a can of lube (I used wd40) and attached a length of small bore pvc hose to the nozzle and the other end zip tied to the end of a length of sturdy wire long enough to reach the joints ( I used a wire coat hanger ) then give them a few short bursts of lube and cycle the ignition again to help penetrate.......button back up...job done. Thumbs Up

Another more costly option I did hear about was that the dealers can now replace the rods or ball joints for ones that don't rust, not sure where I read that, but before, they just used to change the offending whole turbos for quite a large fee.

One thing to note is they first squeak when they start to seize, then you loose power as they fully sieze up and finally the engine fault light comes on and you loose lots of power..depending what position the rods have stuck at.

If I remember correctly the egr valves also cycle like the variable vane actuators do in an attempt to keep themselves clean and free, so the path of least resistance would be check rods first then if there ok then maybe it could be the egrs or something different that someone else will be along soon to point out, ...as not all symptoms point to the same ailments Thumbs Up 08 RRS TDV8 stornoway grey.
