England 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Siberian Silver
turbo

How do I locate the turbo hoses on our tdv8?
Lost power and theres a ton of black smoke and last time it was a cracked turbo hose hose though there was no loss of power then! I'd like to try to check the problem before spending money on something the mechanic says is at fault then later appears to be something totally different!
Any help on fault suggestions or how to access the turbo hoses hoses would be great! Thanks
This car is more expensive than the kids! !! Big Cry

There are two large pipes at the top of the engine bay that lead from the intercooler to the air inlet manifold. They look like radiator hoses. Check that they aren't split. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Well....
We checked the hoses, no splits or leakage coming from either one... ....
Now wondering if there's an issue with a different hose....? Better than byst turbo! Theres no white smoke, its billowing black smoke on acceleration but with loss of power. ..
Its bugging me!
Sad

Does sound like something causing loss of air resulting in over fuelling (hence the black smoke). Could be the intercooler itself that is damaged or one of the hoses from the turbo to the intercooler - these are somewhat deeper in the engine bay so not sure how you would check them without a ramp. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thanks, time for a mechanic! I'll post back with the result! Its one thing after another with this one! Keeps slipping out of transmission too! Had 2 oil changes and a gearbox rebuild and still slips out! Had different mechanics too lol!
Used to only slip out in automatic but then started to do it in manual. Worse towing and uphill.
Thinking it's got to be an electrical issue now. ..
IIn the back of my mind I'm thinking that once it's driving without black smoke it may be time to replace this 2007 model! !!!!
It's been an expensive one since we got it but once you start spending money on it you get to thinking that it would have been a waste if you give up on it! So you do a bit more, thinking it will be fine this time, then something else happens! !!

For your gearbox fault, look here: Autobox Gearlever Pivot

For your smoke, if you can't see a split, take the hose off and check the hose properly. Very common issue, and 99% of the time, thats what it is Thumbs Up

Excellent result! Thumbs Up

That's the sort of service that gets you going back to them next time even when you know the bill might be big. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
