Just flashed transmission ECU with IID

Decided it was time to do something about low speed clunks and thumps from the auto transmission on my TDV6.

Flack was very kindly going to upload the latest firmware to my 'box, but unfortunately my work commitments got in the way.

So a few days ago, I thought I'd ask GAP Diagnostics when their IID would be able to do this, as I've had one for a year or so. To my delight, I received a very speedy reply, and Patrick from GAP asked if I'd like to test their latest beta software, which included this ability. I immediately replied with a "yes please!".

So, to summarise, I connected my CTEK MXS 25 maintainer (do NOT simply use a battery charger, as it will not cope with any voltage drop, and the update may fail). If you cannot do this, you could use jump leads from another vehicle and have its engine running.

First, I cleared the transmission adaptation settings. Very important to do this.

Then, I flashed my auto transmission ECU. It took 6 minutes to complete. Make sure you do NOT turn the ignition off until the seemingly dead instrument panel comes back to life, and the message appears to tell you that the upload was successful.

So how does the car drive now? Well, in one word, brilliantly! The low speed clunks and thumps, particularly when decelerating and braking at very low speeds have disappeared. The whole box seems smoother. It took several miles for the transmission to 'adapt', because it is very important that you clear the transmission adaptation settings before you start.

I'm one delighted Landie Lover today, and extremely grateful to Patrick at GAP for letting me be a beta tester. Their level of support is brilliant and I'd highly recommend the IID if you're in doubt. So far I've installed the new AMK suspension compressor software, cleared EGR fault codes after installing the BAS blanking kit (I know they return though) and reset the service indicator. It's also great for controlling the park brake when you're doing a service.

Please note that whatever tool you use to flash an ECU, there is a small risk that you may run into problems, and your car may be off the road for a few days, whilst the problem is solved. GAP will no doubt help you with this. I am very lucky, as I have another car that I could have relied upon if needed.

Hope this helps. I believe key programming is also possible with the latest beta update to the tool as well now. I cannot speak highly enough of these guys. Level of support is excellent, and the tool is great value for money. I love the fact that I can work on my car myself thanks to this.

Thumbs Up 2006 TDV6 SE, Zermatt Silver

I have low speed clunks and bumps, I have had the adaptation reset and the box flushed, but it still does it.

Is this something you do for others?

Fraid my IID is locked to my VIN only, but if you have a IID, they might let you be a beta tester? 2006 TDV6 SE, Zermatt Silver

You can reset the adaptive transmission with the IIDTool. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

Just had an E Mail back from GAP, unfortunately Windows mail will not open it fully, however the part I can read states it's a case of Beta testing & Beta software, so yes I'm all for it, so will send another E Mail off to Gap. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

Have you thought about adding to the WiKi http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/IIDTool on the sister site???

I have joined the Beta program, however as mine is the BT unit I had a small hiccup with the interface, anyway new software for the BT unit has now been released, so all the info / serial numbers sent back to GAP, so I am now waiting on them. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
