United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black
TDV8 what to look for?

After selling my S/C 18 months ago I've missed not owning a RRS

I've found a really nice 2008 TDV8 50k one owner FMDSH with warranty right colour combo & wheels I've heard a few horror stories on here about the TDV8's can anybody stead some light on what I should look for - common problems etc. I know LR reliability issue's aren't the best on any of their models but it seems that I just can't stay away from them, hard as I try Rolling with laughter

So what am I looking for guys - common faults on the TDV8's, service issues etc? At just over 50,000 miles are there any expensive services coming up?? Cheers Laurence.

Had mine for 3 months now and loving it ! If it's the right car for you, colour model etc then go for it. You will always hear horror stories it's a dedicated site to one model after all, you'll get them on other sites just the same for other makes.

had a tdv8 for 60k miles and it was great, nothing fell off and it never stopped --- apart from reflashing the ecu at delivery mileage and a full set of warning lights when I got a flat tyre...it was great for reliability
At trade in time it needed the front and rear ARBs done which wasnt as dear as I thought it would be.
still felt tight and drove well. wonderful smooth burbly engine...the sdv6 was a real let down in the new one by comparison

2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Zermatt Silver

Had mine for close to a year, 57TDV8 with now 51k miles, new alternator, new compressor, new front OS wheel bearing, water leak fixed + new header tank, other than that runs like a dream lol. Used Guava in Guildford and great service, but might invest in a warranty next year... Or swap it for a Defender! Shocked 2010 TDV8...

Had mine for nearly 4 years now - Im the 2nd owner and its coming up for 7 years old. Apart from the usual ARB bushes, suspensions niggles and alternator it has been a surprisingly reliable car, compared to others. They are obviously expensive to run when you look at comparative road tax, insurance and fuel costs, but as a long distance cruiser (which is what mine primarily gets used for) it has been superb.

I'd suggest a full service history is a must as it a decent warranty and buy with your head, not with your heart. I know not all experiences are the same on here, but I have had no problems with my couple of claims with Warranty Direct. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy
Ex 2006 RRS SC - garbage
Ex 2016 135i M Sport - dream car
Ex 2003 RS6 Avant - piece of cr*p
Ex 2014 320d X Drive, M Sport Touring - ok I guess
Ex 2007 RRS TDV8 - bloody loved it
EX 2007 FL2 XS - not so bad

one thing to look out for is excessive smoke on cold mornings from the pre heat, I had a tdv8 and it looked like the bloody thing was on fire, took it to dealers but all they suggested was remove the fuse or live with it, I'm sure there was a cure out there, but part ex the tdv8 for a s/s love the car, it was not the only reason I part ex but was a major factor
