Dash Crack

For those of you with the dreaded passenger-side airbag dash crack, what are you doing to fix or cover it up? How many of you have replaced the dash (out of warranty)? Any good resources for parts suppliers that would ship to the states?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers! '12 RRS SC

A lot of cars in the States have dash cracks. Its the sun in places like FL and AZ that does it.

Really? I find that hard to believe. This is a mid-west car...weather similar to the UK (maybe a little more sun).

It's probably better to replace the dash, but they're $800 here. Any ideas?

I posted pics of the dash to my gallery.

Would anyone have instruction on how to remove the dash? I did a search forum search and came up with very little.

Thanks again! '12 RRS SC

I think it's a lot of work - you can get an idea from here - http://landrover.workshop-manuals.com/lr3/index.php?id=2521 for the LR3 which is similar.

Full details for the RRS are available from here http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/i18n/index although you have to pay a subscription.

Have you thought of having a dash mat made to hide the crack?

A SMART repair can be carried out on the dash, do you have a SMART repairer in your area? MY2007 RRS TDV8 Black - tinted glass - side steps- stormer grille - 20" diamond cut alloys - alpaca leather - TV/DVD pack - some blingy chrome bits & bob's

Is that not an "oxymoron"? Using the word smart in the same sentence when referring to USA? Laughing Rolling with laughter
Only kidding.
Never heard of dash splitting but did have the plastic panel between dash and screen replaced under warrantee when it started to peel and coating was flaking off. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

We're seeing the cracked dash over the passenger side airbags all the time in the middle east....it's disgraceful for such thing to happen on a $75,000 car.
Land Rover middle east say it's not an issue to be handled by them....but as a Gulf Spec car I think they really screwed up in the plastics department.

I'm currently talking to a few other owners so we can put some pressure on Land Rover to correct this as a recall. If it effects the integrity of the airb bags then we might have a case.

Can you provide more information? I've never heard of that service. I've been to a few upholstery shops, but they won't touch it because it's over the airbag.

Pretty frustrating for a $75,000 vehicle. '12 RRS SC

Totally agree. I'l take better pictures and them to you soon. I took this up with Land Rover North America and they basically laughed at me..."the vehicle is 7 years old, what dod you expect". I knew then the conversation was over. '12 RRS SC

United Arab Emirates 2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Alaska White

Our UAE Land Rover club has a large percentage of LR3 and RRS owners, some of whom are experaincing this cracked dash at the air bags segment of the soft dash.
I sent a strong email to Land Rover Middle East yesterday and this morning I've been summoned to see them about what can be done.

At first I was told 'it's going to happen in the heat' but they obviously didn't know who they were dealing with and that opened the door for a barage of comparisons on why this doesn't happen to other luxury barnds of car and even to Skoda's, Jeeps and lesser quality vehicles.
The materials used in GULF Spec vehicles are supoosed to be able to withstand the high heat and UV of this regeon and ever since the hot weather testing for Land Rovers was moived from Death Valley Utar to the Empty Quarter deserts of the UAE I think they screwed up in the choice of materials used.

Hopefully by this time tomorrow I should have some better answers for those suffereing from this unsightly defect. Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.
