Hi guys, I have just put a down payment on a TDV6 HSE MY06 from a non landrover dealership. The salesman said that the person who traded the RRS in informed them that the cam belt had been done, but that they haven't any documented proof, like receipts or anything. They have assured me that they will check the cam belt and that if it hasn't been done then they will do it. How would I know that it has been done?....Would I just have to take their word for it? I'm not mechanically minded at all so have no clue as to how I should know. Any help here would be appreciated. |

It has done 93K miles Jas, the dealership guy said it had been serviced 'just recently'.....but when I asked him if the cam belt had been done at that service he said he didn't know....but the guy who brought it in to them said that it had been....He assures me that if it hasn't been done then they would get it done for me before i collect the car......but I'm wondering if their is any way for me (a non mechanically minded guy) to know that it has had the cam belt done or not.....at the end of the day the dealership could tell me it's done when it's not......I wouldn't know a cam belt from a bag of chips mate |

You wouldn't know unless you stripped down the front end, to check the belt.

Thanks Mikey, much appreciated mate....Looks like I will have to rely on dealership honesty and hope that they replace belt if required like they have promised. |

You could always just do it anyway for peace of mind, I've just had a letter from Stratstone Lye offering to do it for £399 inc both belts, injection pump belt & tensioners and obviously a loan car for the day.

If they have agreed to check it I'd want to see the car dismantled while they checked it.

I had Similar concerns when I bought mine- and still have. £399 seems a great price so I think I'll get it done- rather do it twice than not at all. Why don't you contact the previous owner and ask him where he had it done? You could check then? |

@Sparky I was thinking this myself mate, better safe than sorry. Once I get the car I will get it done for peace of mind.

It's a no brainer, you would be stupid not to fit a new Cam Belt.

Without documentation I would have to assume it has NOT been done and price the car accordingly. I woiuld not accept the word of the seller that they will do it without having a look at the stripped down engine. If you get it done don't forget to get the oil pump housing done at the same time for peace of mind - they can fail after a belt change but is relatively cheap to do when the cam belt is off - particularly for the peace of mind.

Agree, I had my oil pump replaced as well, peace of mind, however I think the early sports were OK, I think it was the 08's like mine that had the problem. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

I actually thought it was the later models that did NOT have the issue and it was from 05-08 that were the problem. 07MY RRS TDV6
