all these watches get me scrabbling to have a look at them, some are out of my league, then someone made a comment yesterday that i could look for a watch, made in the same year i was born, but i though that was too old, so started looking for watches made in 2005 when my son was born, as eventually it will become his

I wonder if anyone happens to have a blue faced Blancpain Aqua Lung Grande Date, or a similar Blancpain?

My last (and only) watch had a flip up plastic cover with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on it so I don't really know much about watches - but saw one a few weeks ago and decided to treat myself for my birthday as I really liked it

Wow - some really nice watches shown here - I do like to look but unfortunately the high end prices are way out of my league. I have 3 Boss Watches - all representing some special birthday or life event - my latest was for my 10th wedding anniversary

I'm going to stick my neck out on the line here and ask the question - what is the deal with watches?

Sag, as with everything in all fairness....you pay a premium for everything from quality of manufacture, complexity of the movement, materials etc. Hence even a basic watch can vary hugely in value by simply having rose gold instead of a steel case.

Same reason you have a Rangey over a Kia, or you might buy an iphone over a £20 Tesco phone, a Sony TV over a LG, oak doors over B&Q white eggshell ones, etc. Would you prefer to marry the university-educated, slim leggy blonde or the fat comp-educated spotty bird from the chippy? You'll still be able to watch TV on the LG, you will still arrive at the chippy to pick up the fat bird in your Kia with your Tesco phone. When she falls out with you, the B&Q eggshell doors slam almost as hard as ones made from trees. But its not quite the same. Its like wearing plastic shoes. Or choosing a two bar electric fire over a log burner. Why would you if you had a choice? One likes to eschew mediocrity. Although an American ad, see if you can relate to this: |

It's all relative I guess. If the fat bird from the chippy put a huge smile on my face and made me want to rush home after work everyday whereas the leggy blonde made me want to slit my wrists, there's really no question to answer. However I think I see the point you're trying to make in that post.
