RRS Newbie - Advice on Buying S/C

Hi all,

I have been pouring through many of your threads as I'm looking to buy my first RRS. I have settled on the S/C over the TDV6/8 but wanted to get an idea for what I should be paying. I have £20-25k budget and I feel as though that should get me a 07-08 plate with 50k on the clock, does that sound about right? I want a factory standard HSE and then plan to convert to HST bumpers, grill, tips etc.

I am test driving this later today and will be looking for smoke on startup, knock sounds whilst driving and test the suspension rising button, are there any other tips to spot poor previous ownership?

Lots of questions but answers appreciated from the pros!

Welcome to the forum Very Happy
Supercharged Bow down A good choice if fuel costs are not a problem Thumbs Up HST kit - brand new from dealer including Roof spoiler - up to £1800 without painting. The bumpers that are factory fitted was originally in 2 parts - in my opinion no matter how good the painter - you will never get the finish that comes from the factory that you get by installing the parts after. The car you are looking at seems to have the HSE interior the Supercharged comes with a perforated leather interior - some HST models come with leather & alacantra side supports Whistle
The RRS looks tidy & well loved but - I believe for the money you've got you should get a straight HST with all the trimmings.
Good luck Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

A couple of things that have gone wrong with mine (2005 SC) and are a relatively common fault so worth checking status:
- has the air suspension compressor been replaced/ did it come with the later AMK compressor
- do the adaptive headlights work (should 'dance' on start-up) otherwise the AFS Control Module might need to be replaced
Also I was aware of the common 'front suspension knocking' when I bought mine and had the selling dealer replace them.

hi guys thanks for the responses

peachy thanks for your input, if I just wanted the two bumpers plus the exhaust tips how much would that cost, do many people on this forum have these for sale rather than buying brand new parts from LR? Do you think with a budget closer to 20k I could get an HST 2007ish with40-50k on the clock?

robmeister - how much is a new air suspension compressor and AFS control model? What causes the front knocking and what needs to be replaced and finally how much.

I drove the car on the link, it was actually a TDV8 2009 plate, pretty good condition but the car lot looked pretty dodgy so still looking. The acceleration was surprisingly quick so I might be leaning away from the supercharged given its thirst!

The fact that they can't tell a S/C from a TDV8 is more worrying than the state of the premises! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yeah def go for the S/C. It's a proper mans car.
And def just go straight for a HST
I bought a 06 HST S/C earlier this year and can't see me going back to a diesel unless I do loads more miles.
The HST has all the extras on it and it stands out that bit more than a standard HSE.
Just do it!! You will love it.

Other than the locking rear diff, what extras does the HST have over the S/C or TDV8? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

HST bits are few & far between - most non LR part dealers ask silly money Crying or Very sad in fact sometimes they ask more for second hand parts than new components from dealers. If that's the way you wanted to go - double check prices & compare with cost against new. As always good advice from all the members Bow down 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

What kind of mileage was it and do you mind me asking how much you got it for, dealer or private? I'm looking at 20k max with 40-50k on the clock

So mostly stylistic differences then (other than the DVD and locking diff, and the DVDs can be retro-fitted if required) 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
