United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HSE Santorini Black

Cam pins are 5.9mm

Just buy the kit IMHO. Can be had for between £40-£50. Then it can be kept for the next one, or sold on again. Thumbs Up

Or, I'm sure Advanced Factors rent out the kit

162000 km, Did my front belt today.. (Thanks to disco mickeys service link) Old Belt looks immaculate. Very little wear. Tensioner had a lot of red dust on it but nothing out of the ordinary judging by the other pictures on this site.
Anyways... Here's to another 165000 km's !!

Looking at many of these belt change threads it would seem that people who do their own work are only doing the front belt and not the rear pump belt when both are supposed to be done at the same time. I appreciate that doing the rear belt is a bit of a pain but is less crucial to get right but nevertheless needs to be done.

So are people doing it at the same time as the front belt and just not talking about it, not doing the belt at all as it is too awkward to do or paying someone to do the belt.

Cheers

The rear belt is probably not mentioned, as you don't need any special tools etc.

While it is fiddly, the rear belt only takes around 45mins to do Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver

Hi All,

First post so bear with me.

I've got a 56 plate RRS 2.7 TDV6 HSE, 72k and 7 years old, so it is belt change time.
I've had a trawl but just want to get clear what each belt is and does, can someone confirm if I've got it right please?:

1. Front Drive belt - the crucial one, cambelt.
2. Rear Drive belt - works the diesel fuel pump.
3. Auxiliary drive belt (also called Anciliary drive belt)- works the power steering, water pump, alternator etc.

Any help on this and general belt info and advice would be appreciated on this guys, in order for me to get quotes etc from dealers and specialists.

Thanks in advance,
Steven

Yes, to all 3 Thumbs Up

However, a 56 plate is right on the changeover between 06 and 07 MY's. Could be a late 06, or early 07. It is crucial to find out, as the HPFP belt is different between the 2 models.

Also, 07 MY's had issues with oil pump casings breaking, causing the front cambelt tensioner to fall off, destroying the engine. Best you find out now Thumbs Up

Casmbelt Change

Hi All

Just had mine changed at 64k on 2006 HSE and nothing adverse to report. Belts still in good condition but not a risk worth taking and pleased it has been done.

Used main stealer till now but found a small Indi in Fordingbridge Hants (Candys Land Rover Specialist) to do this, plus full service and an old loan car for £700.

Typical little family enthusiasts set up and total including a loan car £700.

MOT tomorrow as well. Baza G

Disco_Mikey - Thanks for your speedy reply! Much appreciated. And glad it is from such a knowledgable poster (seen your photo belt guide! Very Happy ).

My RRS was registered 30/9/06 so I reckon from that it is a late 2006 model.
So I hope that it isn't one with the oil pump casing problem! Exclamation
Thanks for the additional info.!

One additional question:
I see some places saying they change the 2 x front idlers for say around £40, where are these? Are they associated with one belt (if so which one?) or are they associated with one on each belt (if so which ones?), and what's the consensus on how necessary these are to change?

Thanks again in advance,
Steven

Sept 06 could still be an early 07MY. They tend to be released to coincide with the new plates
If you PM me your full chassis number, I can confirm for you Thumbs Up

The idler pulleys are extra on the front cambelt: http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/532046110...2593-p.asp

They are not necessary to change, but after 105k miles, and 7yrs, and for the extra cost, it is a no brainer to have them replaced at the same time. Most garages won't warrant the job if they are not replaced at the same time Thumbs Up

FWIW, you can buy a full kit from site sponsor Advanced Factors for £149, suitable to do both belts, pulleys and tensioners, upto 06MY Thumbs Up
I fitted one of these kits at the weekend, and had no issues whatsoever Thumbs Up

EDIT: Steve beat me to it Embarassed

I'll shut up soon...but...
On the auxiliary/anciliary belt are there any extras to add to the change like there are idler pulleys on the front drive belt and tensioners on the front drive belt and rear fuel pump belt, or is it simply just change the auxiliary/anciliary belt and job done?
I'm just trying to get all the necessaries done at once and seems pointless changing all you knowledgable people have mentioned to change and then missing 1 or 2 things on the auxiliary belt!

Also does the rear drive belt only drive the fuel pump and nothing else?
My specialist says they don't always change that as it is usually OK and if it did go the car would just stop but no engine damage!!!!????
He's been doing this job for many years & seems to know what he's talking about RRS-wise but thought I'd check!

Cheers,
Steven
