I have 240v to 12v transformers for each of the 5 downlighter in my bathroom

I am looking to get rid of these as the transformers from b&Q over heat and trip out or blow bulbs and im getting bored of swapping them

I am going to swap to JCC 7v Shower Rated downlighters, with a 10 year warranty

Can I legally swap these myself, i won't be changing the circuit, just unscrewing the transformers and screwing the 240v cables in to the new light fitting connectors

I am capable of doing this, and have done so many times before the newer rules came in

The reality is unless you are going to sell your haouse in the very near future, who is going to know. The whole 'Part P' thing is a nonsense.

I'd just change the fittings for standard spotlamp holder, 240v, and get some 7w LED bulbs off ebay. In fact, I'm selling a box of 10 spotlights to suit GU10 bulbs on ebay at moment for £49 (3 sets available not advertising - just helping out a fellow member. Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

I would just do it, cheap transformers and lamps do not last long.
Worth looking at the LED option as they last much longer than a halogen lamp.

I thought about standard gu10 shower down lights they work out about £10-12 less for fire safety ones so not much extra for the LED, I have half a box of gu10 LEDs left but they are not dimmerble and I want the lights to set the mood for those nights when the kids are away and the mrs had a bottle of bubbly chilled

In a bathroom it will depend on the ceiling height (in effect). Anything more than 2.25m above floor level (or the height of the shower head if it's more than 2.25m above floor level) is outside of the zone of control. Anything less than 2.25m above floor level and within 600mm horizontally of the bath (or a tap).

One of the down lighters is directly above the shower, less than 50cm if shower head is at highest point

The light I am look at it IP65 rated so should be fine
