We keep seeing posts where owners complain about getting warranty work agreed and with businesses short of cash it will get worse.

It might be stating the obvious but there's a clear lesson if you have...

a) wheels over 20inch diameter or you've modified the ride-height, don't expect suspension warranty work to be cleared,

b) gaps in service history will mean turbochargers and engine warranty work is likely to be denied; you'll probably still get other work like transmission etc. cleared.

c) a non-standard Land Rover battery may see you having problems if your alternator packs in.

In fact, from the many posts we've seen on the forum, it seems to me that it would be a really good idea to try return your vehicle to as close as possible its original spec. before going anywhere near a dealership with any warranty question - extended or otherwise !

From my experience (and this is only my experience) It is only the LR warranty that does not cover suspension work for wheels larger than 20". I have made a few successful claims for various bits and pieces on cars with 22"s

For major unit replacements, they want a FSH, LR or otherwise, before authorising new engines/gearboxes/turbos etc. However, a lot of this comes down to clever wording on the garages behalf when making the claim

I have used many non-genuine batteries, and as long as the batter is upto spec, it will be fine. If it isn't, you have an underlying problem

I must admit that I always spec my car so that it arrives new with all the bits and pieces that I want / need and leave it at that. Personally I would never own a LR product for over the 3 year mark and always change my vehicles before the original manufactures warranty expires.

I know that not everyone is in a position to do this, and that cost is an issue when deciding if you want to spec your car from the dealership or add additions yourself later.
