Private Plate Transfer - 3 cars

Hi Guys, looking for an ingenious suggestion for plate transferring!

I have a private reg on the RRS & my Dad has a private reg on his Saab. He is having the RRS soon and wants his plate on it, and I am buying a new car and want my plate on that - The Saab will be p/x'd against my new car.

What's the best and quickest way to go about this?

I was thinking of transferring his plate on to my RRS, putting mine on retention until I find the right car and then letting the dealer put mine on before collection? This way the Saab is on original plates and there is no delay.

Is that a good way or will it be quicker to leave it all to the dealer?

Thanks Very Happy LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

I'd go with your plan 'a'. Local DVLA offices stopped processing transfers in July and they all now need to go through Swansea allowing 14 days for a swap and 6 weeks for a retention! 2011 Evoque Si4 Dynamic plus lux

Thanks Dave Thumbs Up

Didn't know that local offices had stopped. Think getting it done in advance is the best route then. LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

The transfer time back in June took 4 weeks.. I transferred my plate directly to a pre registered but new RRS, it took two calls from the LR dealer to get the DVLA to get on with it. They had sold my Disco 4 and could not complete the process without the logbook and new plate.. Apparently a lot of dealers are unhappy with the wait time to transfer a plate since the local offices closed.

A friend had just put his plate on retention in under two weeks.

It can happen quicker and frequently does. I'm hoping that one I sent on Friday will be super quick. Sods law they will pick me for their 'random' inspections and it will take forever! 2011 Evoque Si4 Dynamic plus lux

Hi guys, can anyone help with this query?

Do I need to sign anything on the V5 (Section 8 - Changes) when I send for a plate transfer? Only just got round to getting all the paperwork out this morning! LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

100% put both on retention...... It's £25 extra on each but will save you a whole load of aggravation.
