Help with Dogs Eye Problem

A couple of weeks ago we noticed a white spot on our little Westies eye and took her to the vet. This was just after she tore a dew claw playing with our other dog (he's a rescue and a bit of a nutter) Rolling Eyes

Anyway the vet thought it was a scratch but did not improve so then a ulcer was suggested but still no improvement and now talking about operation to stitch part of lid over eye and loss of sight along with mounting vet bills Shocked

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

Hello, poor little Westie, our Betsy is always scratching her face maybe it could be a scratch or could it possibly be a cataract.
Not sure if there is an age limit as a friend of mine got one in his late twenties, but he had damaged the eye many years before so this may of triggered it.
I would seek a second opinion. Thumbs Up

Hope you get it sorted. Current Volvo XC90 R Design T8

Muddy, Not sure how close you are, but get her to the Royal Vetinary College. (Herts) Wink
Whenever we have had prolonged problems with our family dogs we have always gone there and the are very quick to diagnose and offer treatment. It's a bit of a trek I know, but will be worth it for the poor little thing. Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Vet is talking about sending her to eye specialist near Wakefield if no improvement soon (he thinks he will probably stitch the lid lining over the eye) but would like to do everything possible first to avoid such drastic action Sad

I am now sadly considering rehoming the rescue as I can not risk anymore injuries - he is too excitable and twice her size so she is coming off the worst - I can't risk anything else happening Crying or Very sad

Currently applying Fucithalmic - Fusidic Acid 6 times a day Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Muddy,

My Cairn terrier has just had a problem with one of her eyes - pupil was not reacting and was as large as the eye itself. Took 3 months of antibiotics and steroids but she is now getting better, not on any medication at the moment and next check up due in November.

A dog breeder friend recommended this specialist vet.

Cheers Woody Bow down

Nottingham is a bit of a trek but Vet has recommended eye specialist nr Wakefield so probably going to try him Confused

I found a good home on Saturday with one of my employees for our rescue dog that has been causing the injuries but really missing him and felt terrible all weekend Confused

On his own he is a fantastic dog but I can't risk more injuries and stopping them wrestling was impossible - the Westie is very subdued now too Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Shame about yer wee dug he looks a right wee character. Rescue dogs are the best, both of mine are, ones 12yr old and wee got the lurcher to keep him company about 18 months ago.

Well they fought like Censored for about a year but eventually they calmed down.

Most of the time they were curled up in the basket together but then a few times a day they went berserk with teeth and claws out - all in the name of fun I'm sure but the vet bills for the Westie over the last few weeks and the possibility she may lose the eye my nerves couldn't take anymore Sad

Added to this he had to be with me constantly even at night or he barked/cried, self harmed if put in a crate, got car sick and to top it all started chewing electric cables in the last few weeks - but he was totally loyal Rolling Eyes

We got the Westie to keep him company because the kennels said he had been separated from his sibling when handed in but looking back I think he preferred to be on his own with us Embarassed

My employees dog died last week and it slept on her bed. She also lives with parents who are at home all day so looks like a perfect match but still feel bad he's gone Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

speaking as someone who was hit on the eyeball by a stone kicked up by a garden strimmer, i can empathise with your Westies pain Sad

home they sort the eye out soon, im sure the Wakefield specialist will do their best Thumbs Up

Think of the rehoming as been for the best and your employee will benefit with the new company as well

Just returned from trip to eye specialist - left 7am this morning, 2 hours drive each way and £500 for operation Sad

Vet has removed small plastic disc stuck to eye which caused ulcer - looks like son dropped a contact lens that dried out and shrunk then westie rolled on carpet resulting in debris in eye Shocked

My vet could have flicked this out weeks ago and saved me 4 visits, fees and stress not to mention the likelihood of scar now and poor vision Evil or Very Mad

I have also rehomed other dog believing he had scratched her eye Banging Head Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
