Front Parking Sensors - are they worth it?

Hi all
New member here but have been lurking for a while. Great resource so hoping I can become a part of that.

In the meantime I pick up my 2010 RRS this weekend and I want to gauge peoples opinion re the parking sensors.
It has rear, but not fronts....I've been quoted £350 by the dealer to have installed...question I have - are they of much use? I guess largely it's down to personal preference but this cost seems quite steep to me? Shocked

What do you think?

Chin

I find them very useful. They cover the corners diagonally across too so not just straight ahead. Very handy when parallel parking or coming out of a tight parking space with a pillar or another car infront.

Can't comment on the price as mine already had them when I bought it.

You might be OK if you are already used to a big car which doesn't have them.

Welcome to the forum Thumbs Up
These are factory fitted historically - don`t know of any being retrofitted - I cant see the dealer swapping the complete bumper Shocked all that in mind £350 ( genuine sensors are about £30 each then you need different - additional wiring loom ) is a good price if it looks as if it was factory fitted - is it a Landrover dealership ? The lads on here will be along in a while to fill in a few gaps I may have missed - ie is the wiring already there if so you may be able to buy a take of bumper that is the right spec & colour. Does your RRS have front fogs ?

Cheers lads.
It's a SE...of course would have loved HSE but the budget was already stretched to afford a 2010MY.

It's coming from a LR dealer yes.
I was thinking of having them fitted to the black trim at the bottom of the bumper (where they would have been from a factory install) so no need for colour coding or swapping bumpers etc - trying to keep it easy!

My main fear is that if retro fitting them, would they put a switch on the dash so that it doesnt start beeping in traffic etc.. (I guess I need to ask this of the dealer).
BTW it's not the dealer themselves fitting them, they have told me they will outsource it to a local company to fit.

Honest opinion - if they are not fitted so they look as if they was factory installed then I would find another solution. Sad 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Personally I think for what these cars cost, regardless of spec and bearing in mind the cars size I think it's a **** take they aren't fitted as standard.

The loom is probably already in place for them (it is on most Volkswagen/Audi cars). It might be easiest to try and source a the bottom part of the bumper (assuming the texturised black part is separate from the rest of the bumper?) from a breaker, although I doubt many new shapes are being broken at present!

so after doing lots of digging it sounds like it's clearly possible to install them, but it wouldnt be utilising the space where the switch would be to activate/disable on the dash.
Instead they would fit a small switch under the dash on the drivers side to disable them if needed.
Has anyone got any experience in this?
Can anyone recommend a decent installer in London??
I've had prices ranging from £400 (through RR dealer) down to £170.

Well I suppose it is always dangerous to speculate about an install that one hasn't done Laughing .

But I can't see why you couldn't just order from a Land Rover parts stockist the sensors and the attached bit of loom that goes behind the bumper and the dashboard switch and then get one of our site sponsors like Bodsy, Flack or Geoff to come to you and install the system which would involve making the appropriate holes in the bumper and presumably it would also need enabling in the CCF (but they can do that too).

Or am I just talking out of my Censored ? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
