The above are not from the on-board computer, but actual calculations.

On a recent 780 mile round trip from Scotland to Gloucestershire, I averaged , real MPG, 30.1, this was door to door and was 80% on motorway at well.......... I averaged 70.4 MPH door to door as well. This is in a TDV8 with Superchip thingy. A lot better than my FF TD6 and on MWay was easily in mid 30s.

Motorway driving is a great way to get good mpg figures. Using the range figure from the computer, tooling around locally I get a projected 340 miles for a full tank so that's 19mpg. (It was about 300 miles prior to a BAS remap by the way). On a quick 140mile round trip yesterday on the A43 and M1 I got a projected range of 470 miles. That's about 26mpg. If it had just been motorway (the A43 has a number of roundabouts which leads to greater fuel use) then I'd have seen over 500 miles on the computer. Motorway driving was at "a bit more" than 70mph using ACC for much of the time.

Interestingly, based on the computer, if I travel at 70MPH which is approx 1900/2000 RPM I get less MPG than at 85MPH at approx 2300/2400 RPM, not sure if this is due to the superchip thingy, thought originally it was an anomaly but real calculations bare it out

^^^ so even if you work it out properly, it proves better to drive faster to get better mpg?! |

Daz, I am not technical however something happens at 2100 rpm, dont know if its turbos or the Remap, but uses less fuel at 2200/2300 rpm than at 1900/2000 rpm, just is magnified on a motorway and easily judged as you are travelling for longer at a steady RPM. Looking at the power curve 2100 rpm seems to be a significant point which you can feel under acceleration, in the old days I would call it the cam |
