United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Java Black
Bird Droppings on paintwork

Some huge great flying sh!t machine (Seagull) did it all over my nice clean Java RRS roof and tailgate on Monday in that heat. Twisted Evil

When I got home I tried to remove it with warm water. It came off but has left a dulled area where it had been.

I used the JewelUltra DiamondBrite "Conserver" product in the kit supplied to try to remove it but there is still an area where the crap had been which is dulled (gloss removed).

I paid 350 hard earned smackers for this treatment and I thought it would protect against this kind of problem.

Any comments on how to restore the gloss would be appreciated.

Cheers It's finally gone! Replaced with BMW 730SE in Sophisto grey Xirallic finish with Oyster (Ivory) and black interior. DAB, Climate glass, Ceramic iDrive and gear selector, power boot and iPhone Bluetooth pack - luvvin' it!

I miss my old RRS "bucket" rattling around but it just had to go!

Bird poo is So amazingly BAD for paintwork it is not funny. If you get a huge one on your paint, swallow any pride and embarrassment and get it washed off ASAP.

It is highly acidic and will eat into your paint surface, removing waxes, polishes and the clear coat, penetrating deep down to dull the paint or worse, leave thsoe funny ring marks.

And people wonder why I shoot birds..... Shocked L319 D4 HSE

Well RR you are welcome to come to Scotland while I'm away and shoot the crawbies that live in the Sycamore tree close to my house............ come to think of it bring a power saw and if you promise to do it quietly in the middle of the night you can chop the darned tree down as it sends its helicopter things everywhere and they sprout very quickly. You'll have to be very sneaky about it as the trees have had a preservation order slapped on them! The bloody crows sit up there and watch me wash the RRS and then I'm sure they do target practise, strange thing is they never bomb the Defender when it is parked in the same position on the drive.............. wonder what they don't like about it or like about the RRS Laughing Laughing 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Reminds me of watching squirrels plucking pine cones off a tree in France somewhere & lobbing them onto car roofs. Always thought was funny til I got a car!

I contacted Jewl Ultra and they advised me to put the Conserver product onto the affected area and leave it there for 15 minutes.

I'll try it ove the weekend but to honest I dont see that it will be able to restore the gloss finish.

As to why they "bomb" our nice new cars, a guy at work told me that they see the shiny clean roof from above and (being the stupid bloody flying crap machines that they are) they think that it is water below them and crap away with impunity!

I would have no shame getting out into the car park with my bucket and sponge if I was able to see it when it happened but I can't Sad

I did think about buying a cover though!

I hate Seagulss and pigeons - flying rats if you ask me - shoot all of 'em! It's finally gone! Replaced with BMW 730SE in Sophisto grey Xirallic finish with Oyster (Ivory) and black interior. DAB, Climate glass, Ceramic iDrive and gear selector, power boot and iPhone Bluetooth pack - luvvin' it!

I share your enmity for the vermin of the air, but would caution that a car cover is not a good idea for use outside. Car covers are great if you use them to keep dust off a garaged car - outside however, the wind causes the cover to move - any dust or gritty stuff either on the inside of the cover or on the car itself will, with the movement of the cover, damage the finish.

I have a black XC90 which sits outside all the time. I've been using Zaino products on it since it was delivered (in fact, I instructed the dealer not to clean the car for delivery as they often just do more damage than good). In the Zaino regime, I would have used a clay bar to clean the spot then ZPC to restore the finish, after which I would polish with Z2, cure and finish with Z6 (quick detail). The paint on the Volvo is like glass as a result of using this stuff. No swirls, no scratches (except for the parking lot dings Evil or Very Mad ).

Google some of the detailing sites to find out more - such as autopia.org - there is an ongoing debate about the merits of Meguiars versus Zaino versus something else (see the "detailing products discussion" area).

The Range will get the same loving treatment. 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE, Java/Ebony/Cherry, Privacy, Sunroof, PTI, Premium Sound, SatNav, Cold Climate, Tow kit, CarStyle coded grill and vents, Tasmods, Stormers, JE Exhaust, Autobiography badge
