United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver
Dodgy Cruise Control

Hi all,

I have always had issues with the cruise control on my car since I bought it 2 years back where it works sometimes and then decides not to work. So when I press the + button on the steering wheel nothing happens. If I pull over and turn the car off and on again it sometimes start to work again.

Now it does not work at all !! Nothing when I press the buttons.

Any ideas ?

Cheers

(Ps car is a 2005 2.7 HSE)

Could be the brake pedal switch. The switch has two actions - the first slight press of the pedal disables the cruise control, a further press then activates the brake lights. Be worth checking the switch. Others on here have said it's a cheap fix and possible to do at home. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Generally, either a switch pack or wiring in behind the airbag Thumbs Up

Even though the wiring looks ok, it can still cause problems

There are a few posts on the Disco3 site about similar problems associated with something called the 'clock spring' which is inside the steering wheel and is (unfortunately) around £300 IIRC. Think it makes the electrical contact from the wheel to the car.
Bodsy knows all about it and will be along shortly no doubt Thumbs Up

Brake switch is about £14 from LR, can be fitted in no time and has another less well known function - it shuts off the fuel under braking.

So another symptom of brake light switch failure can be worsened fuel economy. Shocked 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks all for the replies..

First thoughts are that the brake switch seems ok as not having any other issues.. But you never know I suppose and for £15 odd quid I might as well replace it.

I hope it is not the £300 spring from the steering wheel Shocked

Waiting for Bodsy to come along Cool

Answers have already been given Thumbs Up

Brake pedal switch (try diving with foot under the brake pedal to ensure it is completely at the top)
Wiring behind the airbag
Clock spring (or rotary coupler by its proper name)

Process of elimination, the first two are cheap and straight forward to do, the third makes you cry when you have to pay Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Brake light switch swop never a bad idea as they have a limited life. Order one from site sponsor Duckworth parts and mention the forum to get 10% discount. Cheaper than eBay Shocked

While replacing the switch is always a good idea, due to them being a Censored design, if you had a faulty pedal switch, you would have more issues than just the CC not working properly Thumbs Up

My D3 had EXACTLY the same issue as yours does, and was the wiring in behind the airbag Thumbs Up

The loom was replaced. Visually, it all looked fine, but obviously a hidden issue someplace. Was not expensive either. £12 inc VAT Thumbs Up
