towing with MY13 - park assist disabled

Hi All
This is my first time on a forum so I hope it turns out to be a good experience!
I'm on my second RRS - first one was 06 reg and it was good but started to be expensive at MOT time so traded it in last Oct for MY13 SDV6 HSE and I love it, EXCEPT... I'm having problems with the towing electrics recently fitted by local dealer.

I'm using detachable towbar from previous car and have just had LR electrics fitted. Unlike on previous car parking assist is now completely disabled when trailer is attached (on previous car only the rear park assist would be disabled), also, I have to switch engine off then on again when I unplug the trailer to get the park assist working again.

Does anyone have LR towing electrics fitted to MY13 vehicle and if so does the front park assist work when trailer is plugged in? Dealer is looking into it but can't understand why it's happening and reckon I can't compare my two vehicles because LR reserve the right to alter specification at any time (Like they are going to change the spec downwards)!!!!

Any information would be appreciated.

I abit of a jump from 06 to 13my!

Ive got them fitted (13pin) but not used them on my 13My...on the 11, the fronts still worked ISTR - there are towing people here who im sure will confirm.

The dealer only have enable or disable, they cant change what it does. Mike

Sounds like there is something wrong. Mine stops rear sensors only and as soon as plug pulled they start beeping away. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Hmm, mine go to a solid beep when reversing as if I am already 6" away from an object (on a MY10) it must be picking up the A frame, or it might be hard wired to do that, I don't know. Generally I switch the car off when disconnecting the trailer anyway, so can't comment on your switching on/off problem.

Thanks all for info. Yes Mike, it was a bit of a jump but I liked my 06 model (except fuel consumption was very poor) and didn't feel the need to replace it 'til it started costing so much at MOT time. I love the new one - lots of new gadgets like the power boot (altho I miss the split rear door) but really must get this towing thing sorted otherwise it'll be going the journey. I have horses and I really need to be able to tow safely and manoeuvre in some pretty tight places. Is there any chance you might be able to plug a trailer/lighting board into yours to test it for me to confirm exactly how it works? The dealer reckon they fitted electrics to a Disco recently and the park assist was off all round. They couldn't say if it recognised when disconnected as they didn't try this.

I'm really disappointed because I went to a local trailer centre (who were actually recommended by the Sales rep) and had standard electrics fitted at a cost of £100. They had to fit the ones that beep when I indicate and it was driving me mad, plus the park assist just went berserk every time I put it into reverse (a la codfather) because the rear ones responded to the trailer. I also felt that a car that is so computer 'driven' (pardon the pun) should really know it has over two tonnes of load to pull, so I ended up paying another £250 for the LR ones thinking it would work just like my old model did which was brilliant!

I would test it for you...but one of the reasons i cant is i have a 13 pin (deliberately) and havent got an adaptor yet.

I went for 13 for the new standard and the only trailer i have used is...but ive not had call to use it etc.

Have you looked in the manual to see what it says...im really surprised there isnt a 13MY owner on here that regularly tows Mike

Apparently you cannot take the manual as gospel because LR "reserve the right to alter the specification without notice". The dealer has said the only way to tell if the electrics are working as they should is to find another 13MY. Rolling Eyes

I recently traded in a MY10 and towed with it for 3 years - the rear sensors were disabled when towing but front were still active Thumbs Up

Current MY13 is disabling front and rear when towing and almost cost me a bumper trying to get out of my property because I did not realise this - dealer is suggesting this may be normal for MY13 but I can not see why LR would remove a positive feature on later models Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Ive not used the tow electrics my 13my (and probably never will at this rate) but on the 11 they definitely left the front on.

The only purpose of turning the electrics on in the CCF is to:
Deactivate the rear sensors (when connected)
Turn on the stability control when towing
and something else i cant remember

You arent actually coding anything, just enabling some towing features by telling the car its able to do it. As we all know, the lights will still work on the trailer without the CCF being configured Mike

The third thing Mike is to tell the gearbox to start in first.... And on the pre 8 speed, to stop it selecting 6th but not sure on the later boxes. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Sorry guys but I haven't been able to get mine sorted - just putting up with it at the mo. It is very frustrating though and like MW, I can't understand why LR would change such a useful feature, unless they are trying to get us to buy their camera option (although I don't know if that can be retro-fitted)??? If anyone does find out if it's possible to disengage just the rear sensors, please let us know.
