Time for a change.......

Well, this morning I dropped off my MY12 RRS to the guys at HGG.....

....and left it there Shocked

For the last 3 months I've been umming and arring as to whether to keep it or not and decided a few weeks ago that it was time to put the money to better use Wink . The car was spending more and more time on the driveway as I travel with work more and despite loving the RRS, the depreciation was difficult for the accountant in me to ignore Embarassed

I very nearly jumped last month for a SQ5 'a la' awd man, but decided that I don't 'need' a 4x4 (not being one of the tin tent brigade Laughing ) and also was quoted 2Q14 delivery for a new one to my spec Thud .......not liking 'used' cars and having a low boredom threshold I quickly dropped that idea. Laughing

So what did I get Question ......on order a BMW 520D MSport Saloon with an overflowing basket full of toys (including an electric tow bar for my bike rack Cool ). Yes, it's not an RRS (and never will be), but its a very nice place to be, will get the family around in style still and cost me 1/3 of what the RRS did and allow me to invest a little more in the depressed housing market. Wink

Big thanks to Jeremy at HGG for sorting out a good deal on a walk away price where I think we both did alright. Thumbs Up ......well you beat all the other trade in's and I was happy Laughing

Will still pop on here from time to time to abuse the usual folk, so Ady, Awd man, MW, SRE and Bradders don't think you get rid of me that easily.........but in the mean time........it's been emotional Laughing Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Stay on the Forum anyway.

There is loads more to have an opinion and some banter about, even if you don't have an RRS. I don't have an RRS at the moment and I am still an active (and annoying to some people) member although I have tried to be good recently as I don't want to be banned!

The BMW forums are full of tossers, mostly from the USA. I have had my fall outs with Martin (mostly caused by my opinions) but this is a nice place to hang out, nicer than most others I think you will find, which is why I want to stay here.

This Forum does strange things to you, I am seriously thinking about a new (old shape) SDV6 ...head says no, Mrs says no, heart says buy.....torn as I like my X5 4.0D which is still only 18 months old. Decisions..... Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Shocked Well i'm sure we arn't going to miss the lyrca photos Laughing But BMW Question Now its coming to winter and owning a BMW you will be leaving your car in the drive more often. Laughing
It really does make financial sense to get rid of the sport Bc if its parked in the driveway more than its being used. At least you have ticked that box now. Thumbs Up Good luck with your new motor and stick around, Thumbs Up Perhaps we should get another new topic up (Martin) Other Marques. Thumbs Up

You have to stay on here, if only for the lycra input, plus you may need sponsers for you round the world bike ride Rolling with laughter

Dare I say, I may have an M5 for when I'm in the UK. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Don't worry BKHK, I won't be going too far from the iPad and rrsport login screen. As you say, some good people/banter on here Thumbs Up.....oh and agree with you on the BMW forums.......I though people liked to mod their RRS's, but Censored me, Americans modding their BM's goes to a whole new level.

Ady - yes, if was a head over heart decision, but as you say, box ticked and who knows, I could be back in a LR one day (more than likely an FFRR as just can't get my head around the new Sport, even when I saw one in the flesh at HGG today).

SRE - good point about the sponsorship Whistle Laughing An M5.....nice......I toyed with an M3 as you can get silly cheap PCP on them at the moment, but going from the cabin in an RRS to a 3 series was just too bigger step. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

<sing> DUM DUM DUM ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!!!

Hard to justify the expense if the accountant in you is saying otherwise, and at least a 3Series BMW is more the accountant type, but would have thought a move to VOLVO more up your street Laughing

Good choice ... nice cars especially since they upgraded the interior and economic too (relative to RRS). You'll be fine in the few cm of snow the southeast gets if you're getting winter tyres already. Just also put some weight in the boot.

Edited some bits out: Just realised mats won't fit my pre-historic RRS ...

i saw the x20 and thought that must be the 3 series Embarassed

A mate had a 520 a few years back, and just went on about how frugal it was on mpg and cruising on motorway, lower tax company car bracket and this and that, still that didn't stop him from been caught at 115mph by a camera van Rolling Eyes

enjoy, let us know how you get on, having a RRS is not a requirement of joining in on the banter Whistle

Yeah Nick, the 520D was another 'head' choice. I looked at plenty of models and was tempted by a 535D, but that would have meant spending nearly as much as my RRS, which wasn't the objective Rolling Eyes

I had one in a previous life and they run on fumes and in MSport guise are nimble enough for me Smile .
Got 5 years servicing on it two (£475 from memory Shocked ) which combined with the low VED and more loads more mpg just meant it was too much money each month to be ignored. Sure, there will be days when I wish I had the RRS on the drive (probably when there ground is white Laughing ), but with travel on the up (off to KL/Singapore) next week again, I just couldn't keep being that wasteful.

One thing I particularly like is that you can 'code' them (bit like VAGCOM etc) to free up a number of hidden options eg: remote/in car closing of the electric boot being one of them Cool I also specced the TFT multi-function display, it's a complete gadget, but is only just available on the 5's and does look quite Cool ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Sounds like a tough decision to make, but I must admit it's one I'm contemplating also.

May I ask, did you own the RRS or was it financed?
Mine is financed, but I'm wondering what my options are to exit earlier than originally planned - having never done that before. I imagine I'll suffer a bit of a hit having only been in the scheme for a year!, though it wasn't a brand new car when I got it.

But like you I don't really need a 4x4 for 5,500miles per year, however.... the accountant in me says I should be spending the money on a newer weekend toy instead.... Wink 2016 VW Golf GTD DSG
