Definately agree with you on that Ady! had a trip down to nottingham last weekend and couldn't believe the number of cars in the middle lane with nothing in the slow lane!. On the stretch with 4 lanes it was the 2 n/s lanes that were empty and almost nose to tail in the 2 outside lanes Rolling Eyes

The worst people are the middle lane hoggers who pull once your behind them and then pull out again to middle once you have passed- is there something wrong with the inside lane?? RRS TDV8 HST

Exactly! every lane apart from the left hand lane is for overtaking! So why do they see the need to sit in the middle lane at 65 when the rest of the road is empty Censored
This is a particular pet hate of mine and the sooner they start fining the lane hogs the better. Maybe the roads will become a pleasure to drive on again!

It's about time

Coming home at the weekend on the A1 bloke in a focus overtaking a lorry at 51mph, cruised up behind him towing and there was no effort to accelerate, could not go to lane 3 as towing, blast of horn and full beams he just kept his speed and pulled in, as we passed I shuck the coffee beans and my son said to me he called me a P word

Pulled out to middle lane as soon as I got passed him still doing his 51 Censored mph

Whilst i fully agree with the anti middle lane hoggining people's points - I equally get mad when people sit in the middle lane, especially for no reason!!

I do think the UK's approach of points on licences generally is stupid - some things should have, but i think the fine model most places use is better in the first instant Mike

I think we should be allowed to overtake on both sides. I think it would scare the idiots in to moving over for a start. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Drove back from Oxford Sunday with the tin box and was looking forward to the new clear middle lane for overtaking the slower lorries and tin boxes Cool

Did not see a single police car the whole way and only a handful of cars abiding by the new rules Shocked

So spent most of the journey braking/knocking off the cruise and sitting with that useless right hand flashing orange bulb in lane 1 because nobody Censored understands what it means Banging Head

You would not believe the number of times I had to slow down to avoid undertaking Censored in lane 2 going slower than me Evil or Very Mad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

If someone was going 60 mph in the middle lane and the near side lane was clear, then i would of under took and argued the toss in court if i had of been caught, and used my Blackvue video footage as the reason why i under took. Wink But which is the worse crime? Under taking or lane hogging? Now they have brought the new law in. Both dangerous i know.

I would probably do the same thing but I think the courts view undertaking in a very poor light. Lane hogging is "inconsiderate" but undertaking is likely to be considered to be "dangerous"; the person being overtaken would not normally expect a vehicle to do it and so might pull across in to you.

The day you try the undertake option will be the day there is actually a copper around to see it... Big Cry 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Heard a woman last week on Jeremy Vine admit she sits in middle lane for 20-30 miles towing because if she pulls in nobody will let her out Shocked

Is it still considered undertaking if you are already in the left lane (i.e. don't change lanes) but you pass someone who is driving slowly in the lane to your right? What are you supposed to do? Reduce your speed below theirs and clog the traffic up even more?

My view would be you are not undertaking if you are in the middle lane at or below the limit and meet a car in the middle lane doing a slower speed and continue past in the middle lane...Undertaking would be an intentional manoeuvre to go round someone in Land 1, say from lane 2 or 3. Equally if the person in lane 2 was hogging it was their act causing you to break the law.

Just on mirrors and trailers - ive been in many land rovers over years and been able to see round the trailer perfectly without surround mirrors. I think its about being able to see around the box rather than a blanket need.

For example, you can get permanent mirror extensions for a defender, that replace the standard mirrors but look identical. Mike
