What is this button for?

I noticed that all the TDV8's that I see have this button and I wondered what it was for, I don't recall seeing a TDV6 with it?

It's the button at the top of the steering wheel;

Thanks for the advice, I'm assuming that the feature is very similar to Mercedes version which is known as Distronic.

Similar but the Merc system works Rolling with laughter had it on my E55 and made driving long distance a pleasure, the LR system is more of an adventure playground ride but is either flat on brakes or accelerating even to gain or loose a few miles and hour. Shocked

Last time I used my ACC it worked perfectly in an endlessly, tedious, 50 mph speed restriction in narrow lanes on the motorway with other vehicles close in front and to either side but then later in lane three at 80 mph with no vehicles ahead it took exception to a bright screaming orange Ford Focus RS alongside in lane two and slammed on the brakes.

I wondered if it has become self aware and is developing senses of good and bad taste. Laughing 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

^^^ sounds like it Paddi but credit where credit due, it must have the antichav feature turned on Rolling with laughter 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

I use the ACC quite a lot on long motorway runs. Works well although I sometimes use the throttle to override it when I can see that it might be about to do its "hard braking for no reason" trick. I have found that it works best when set to longer gap spacings as it comes off the throttle earlier so usually doesn't need to brake so hard. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Really like the ACC - use it all the time on long motorway trips and even some A-roads. I have the little paddle instead of the button on my steering wheel though for changing the distance; below the gear change paddle. Mine is the SDV6. Current car: Porsche 911 Carrera S PDK (997.2) Past Car: (MY12) Range Rover Sport HSE SDV6 - Orkney Grey with Almond interior

I've learnt how it reacts by observing how it behaves in given situations. Having done that, I'm able to anticipate the system and adjust accordingly.

It's something humans are really good at - learning and applying knowledge. Whistle 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

But unlike bog-standard cruise control, one has the benefit of a system that is always looking in front of the vehicle and can react to situations even if the driver isn't fully concentrating on the view ahead. It's a useful addition to the tools available to the driver and certainly more useful to me than stuff like an internet hotspot in the vehicle (I think that was one of the items suggested in the recent LR questionnaire).

The ACC isn't perfect but then neither is standard CC. I'd rather have ACC than standard CC - I've had standard CC on previous vehicles and only used it in roadworks covered by average speed enforcement cameras. Other than that I found that I had to intervene all the time. ACC reduces the incidents of intervention by a huge number in my experience. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
