Sport 2.7tdv6 slick 50 thoughts ?

Hi all, as titled what are people's thoughts with slick 50 engine oil treatment ? I've heard it's a great product for the cold starts and it helps that initial 2 second start up noise quieton down ? Has anyone got any thoughts or reviews towards it ? Cheers

Oh dear - you have started something now Rolling with laughter

Whenever 'magic' oil additives are discussed on forums there are strong opinions for and against them.

I'm firmly in the 'just use the correct spec oil and an OEM oil filter' and change them at much more frequent intervals than Land Rover recommend. Fifteen thousand between oil changes on a turbo diesel is just plain daft. Change them every 6 months at least. Other opinions are available.

I was sucked in by Slick 50 when I was a young(er) pup. Put it in a 200TDi Discovery, and it gained an extra 3mpg, easier starting etc Shocked

However, what Slick 50 does is "coat" all of the metalwork inside the engine with a film of oil, with added friction reducers. There are some pretty narrow oil galleries feeding the top end of the engine with oil, not something I would want to be "coated" and narrowed down any further Shocked

It may have been OK in a 20 year old engine, but nowadays, I'm not so sure...

As said, good quality oil at a reduced interval. Personally, I will be doing mine every 7.5k miles, or 12 months Thumbs Up

I agree with Disco_Mikey
Remember some items need a set level of friction, cam followers for one rely on friction in order to rotate, best bet just use the specified oil and filter and change it more often. Thumbs Up

If you look in the manual there is Ford specification for engine oil (probably WSS M2C913-B' ) but note since the manual was published higher specification oils have become available so last letter on some is 'C'.

I've decided against the use of ANY additives, just going to change filter and oil and use castrol magnetec 5w30 ! Was just wanting to do something to ease the starting on cold mornings ?
