RRS HSE 55 or 06?

I'm looking at a RRS 55 plate with 62k on the clock, which is a good mileage in my opinion.
My question is, a guy at a dealership yesterday said that pre 06 cars can be a bit problematic.
Was there a change from 55 to 06 or is he just talking waffle as he he only had 06 and upwards in stock?
I have seen an 06 for sale with the spec/colour combo that I want but it is 114k which is a bit high for my tastes when you consider that both these Sports I am looking at are the same price.

This will be my first Range so I need some 'real' help and advice.
I will be purchasing Warranty Direct

Thanks in advance.

Jason

A trader will generally always make his vehicle sound the best, sometimes by denigrating others. I've got a 55 plate Sport TDV6 HSE with 85k on and I've not had a moments problem with it.

At this age it should have had the cambelts changed on both, so investigate that, the job costs between £500-800.

And don't forget that if the RRS is registered before March 23rd 2006 then it qualifies for the £200 a year cheaper road tax (like mine, which is up for sale by the way...Wink)

Thanks for the response. I figured that was the case. I just wanted to check if there were any technical change between the 55 and 06 onwards that led him to say that.

Yours looks great buts its not really my colour combo I'm afraid. I want the ivory or the beige leather and preferably the grey paint.
Best of luck though and thanks again.

I'm in a real quandary at the moment.
Strictly speaking I shouldn't change my Volvo as it owes me nothing, drives really well and looks pretty good in black with cream but I have finished paying for some other monthly's that leaves me enough expendable to afford the RRS which has always been a 'head turner' for me every time I see one.
Also we are looking to move house so the money should be used towards a mortgage but I will be able to afford both so that doesn't stop me totally.
But I'm also torn between a cheaper but better loaded and better performance Lexus RX400H, its not a head turner but its got loads of toys and drives really well with a 0-60 of 7.6 and excellent fuel consumption.

I've never been one for worrying about the cost of tax, fuel etc, if I were then an SUV would not be the way to go of course.
There is a really pretty RRS with the spec I love but has 114k which doesn't appeal to me and another with equally excellent spec with only 62K but its 3 hours away.

ahhhhhh head or heart, head or heart......

There are loads for sale, keep looking everyday and trust me, the right one will turn up.
As sure as eggs are eggs, if you buy one that's not 100% your spec then the next day the correct one will turn up.

An old saying that we were told on our driving courses, exercise restraint and hold back when necessary. This is especially true when looking for that perfect car. Thumbs Up

Jason, go and view lee(SPX) RRS if you are in the market. He is a good guy with a minter.

3 hours is nothing for the right car. If you buy a dud one you will spend a lot more than 3 hours lying awake at night worrying or visiting the garage. 2014 RRS HSE, SVR body kit fitted.

I can see your way of thinking, but if you don't mind putting a bit of legwork in then you should be able to find a good example.

I'm from the school of thought that buying from forums, more-so with vehicles that have a certain reputation, are an excellent source; the people are generally 'fans' of the the car they drive and they'll have looked after it with a little bit more thought than your average Joe.

I wouldn't put the Lexus in the same category as the RRS to be honest, there is evidence of their Toyota background all over their vehicles whereas the Sport has a lot more of a prestige feel. I'm sure the RX would be a good long-term purchase (my Dad did 100k in an LS and besides wear & tear, it didn't cost him a bean).

And I think that sometimes it's good to let your heart rule your head, otherwise we would all be driving Hondas; if you can afford it and you've worked/work hard to be able to, then why not? Coffins don't have pockets... Laughing

P.S. I did a 400 mile round trip for my Sport. Thumbs Up

Hi Preston and SPX, thanks for the great and honest response.
I am in total agreement with you, the Lexus is a good purchase and I probably won;t go far wrong but it's 'not' a head turner like the RRS.
I test drove a 2nd hand 06 plate 4.4 tonight and 'wow' I LOVE the punch you get from it. The fuel costs are scary but hey, if you have to ask or question it, then its not the right car for you is it.
I am very tempted as it is the right price, right colour combo (black with ivory) and it made my heart go flutter when I pulled up haha.

I presume I am right in saying they have a timing chain rather than a belt that needs changing?

Thanks again guys
