Telephone system

I know that there are problems with using various phones via Bluetooth but it would be good to hear from users who have found their phone works perfectly with the Bluetooth system and name their make of phone and model number.

I have spent a long time trying to get the perfect solution for me, at the moment I have a Blackberry 7100v because I need the email facility but this phone is useless on the RRS's bluetooth so when I get in my RRS I divert calls to a second phone - not an ideal situation. If anyone can recommend a phone with email facilities that works with the bluetooth (including the phonebook etc) I would be most greatful. I have checked the approved list from LandRover but the only phone that might fit the bill is a motorola V600 - is this phone any good with emails?

Which ever phone you choose... I am pretty sure it will not work your phonebook... via bluetooth. It only corresponds with your phonebook when fitted to a cradle.

I have had no problems using my 6230i on bluetooth ... all set up.. never have to key in anything... just get in car & hey presto its connected & vice versa. When phone rings in car I just flick the green answer switch on the steering column.... then the red to end. To make a call , again flick the green button again then type in number on centre console , then green switch again. Or ( naughty ) find number on phone .. press dial.. away you go.

Works fine for me, dont think I'll bother getting a cradle.

Yes you can set up email , but I hav'nt. All you need to do is ask at the shop when buying to set it up with your network provider at the time.

Here is some details of the 6230i:-

Email: supports SMTP, POP3, and IMAP4 protocols

& the link to nokia 6230i site:-

http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,71691,00.html

Hope this helps

Cheers

Not in the way your Blackberry allows you to get at your email...

In fairness, I don't have the roaming email requirement that you may have but the 6230 that I have works fine over the cradle and via BT.

I've still got my 6310i from using it in my Bmw bluetooth systems,
Did stick it up for sale, and was going to get a 6230i instead and buy a cradle, but haven't got round to it yet.

The 6310i works brilliant in the RRS and has not crashed once or caused the system to fault or anything in my twoish months of ownership. Its easy to turn off the bluetooth and use it conventionally when you have company in the car too (when stationery obviously). The Bluetooth system works better and a lot more smoother connections etc then in my last two Bmw's.

2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Buckingham Blue

Some basic questions.....(I checked the forum but found only partial answers)

1) Any functional difference between Bluetootch connection & Cradle connection ? Especially in terms of dialing out, phone book transfer, etc. Of course, BT cannot charge.

2) Since I have several hundred phone numbers in my mobile, so if connected by BT, will the car download the address and store in its memory. Or will it read the telephone numbers everytime it connects?

3) If there is anyone who has the cradle, but also uses the BT for phone connection, and can give some comments on the differences?

The dealer is quoting me about US 400 for cradle option, so if there is not much difference, I will opt for the standard BT.

Thanks in advance.

The bluetooth linkup is inferior to the cradle. Only by using the cradle are you able to use your phone's phonebook and all the other functions like missed calls, dialed calls. Your phone book should automatically upload to the RRS system when docked in the cradle but will not keep them in the RRS's memory. Go for the cradle for full functions but take not of previous posts. See my post about the Nokia 6230. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

If you are going for the Supercharged model the phone cradle system should come in with it, unless your country has something weird in the spec on that one.

Then, like me, you just buy a cradle from your dealer for your phone. L319 D4 HSE

and take note that not all your stored numbers in the actual phone will download..... this is because the system takes the numbers as stored on your sim card only.

MDP, I don't think that's true, my numbers are stored in the phone AND the SIM and it brings them all across. L319 D4 HSE

Ahhhh I stand corrected, having not actually picked up the cradle for the new 6230i I have not been able to test pilot this myself. I was only going on experiences of other forum members who seemed to be experiencing similar problems

Also this is what used to happen in my Audi/setup ..... I know thats different...but.. presumed used simillar logic.

But if what you say is happening...... THIS IS GREAT because the SIM storage method is useless as you know. Much better to be able to access numbers as stored in phone memory.

Don't get too excited, I don't think it makes it any better. Despite my numbers coming from the phone and the SIM, when accessed on the screen you cannot see multiple numbers for name, you can only dial whichever number you have assigned as the default against each name.

That I find very annoying.

Plus, I can find no way to access SMS messages to read or send them. L319 D4 HSE

YES............. the same as in / experienced in the audi..... why can't they sort this out. Everyone uses phones this way. ie. find contact name and behind that is all the contacts information..... several phone numbers in most cases , email & address's etc......Oh well.

I think they hold features like this back so that they can 'improve' things later on and have a perceived benefit. L319 D4 HSE
