Don't hold me to this but I had a similar noise on my last discovery. A guy at an indie said it is obviously drive train related and said I should change all the oil in the oil filled parts ( diff /transfer box ETC) or at least make sure the levels are correct. I was already p/xing my car in I'd only gone there to have my service book stamped as I'd forgotten to leave it in the car when it was service a couple of months eariler. So I didn't try it. but it may be a starting point 07 tdv8 stornoway grey at home tucked up

I'd check your intercooler pipe for any splits as this might create an audible tone in the car under certain boost.

@ awd man: no splits in pipes (luckily !) and no increased soot.
