I have a 2006 RRS with the TDV6 engine. I have noticed a vibration during acceleration, most obvious it seems to be in third gear. It feels like something is either not fully balanced or like a slipping clutch. It stops if I lift the gas pedal a little or when the gearbox changes to the next gear.

I am not quite familiar to the mechanics of the automatic gearbox, is there a clutch that can be slipping? Or can it be the torque converter? The vibration has slowly become worse during the last 10k miles.

Any ideas?

Engine running, left foot firmly on brake pedal. Put in drive, bring in the throttle with the right foot. Revs will increase (and the rear will squat slightly). At about 2.2k-2.5k rpm the revs will stop rising. If the revs keep rising then the TC might be tired.

Don't do this for more than a few seconds (as the gearbox will get hot quickly) and make sure you keep the brakes on until the revs are back at idle. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Where do you feel the vibration? how severe is it?

Probably happens in third gear, when revs are about 1500-2000. You'll probably notice the revs will fluctuate in line with the vibration.

Failing torque converter I'm afraid.

You can try changing the oil with a Megaflush or using some Dr Tranny, but end result is likely to be the same. Bodsys Brake Bible

I have exacly the same problem on my RRS 2,7 2007 like mathino.

i have changed the gearbox oil, front diff oil. Drive shaft bearings, but its still there.

Have anyone find solution for this problem?
