I have just done an outfit match to compare the new FFRR and the previous model and based on the results I may have a problem towing my twin axle with the new RRS

Gosh I would have always assumed that both range rovers would have been more than comfortable towing any caravan at all. Surely prior to the 400kg saving on the fullfat there was nothing else out there heavier and better suited to pull one.

Perhaps that's why they have tow assist systems...

My old FL1 was rated to tow 2000kg but couldn't actually tow my last 1590kg caravan - it couldn't use 5th gear and nearly burnt the clutch out on a hill

Old Freelander was useless at towing. It struggled to pull a small horse box with average sized horse. Pulling away from standstill on a slope was impossible. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

My mums passant was a horrible car to tow with and the trailer (small plant trailer) often pushed the car but on the TDV8 RRS I barely even notice it's there, the new car RRS being so much lighter may help performance and economy but its towing ability surely will be degraded even if LR say it can still pull 3500kg RRS TDV8 HST

Not sure how they can claim it will tow 3500 cwt when the car is going to be 220 max. That's if it's 500 kgs lighter than old car. 75% of 2200 isn't 3500. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

If you take that logic...then the defender 90 shouldnt be able to tow anything it tows...and ive seen (and used)them to tow serious weights at the max.

We are not talking about what it is capable of towing, it's what it can legally tow. The laws on towing have changed recently and with increase in Vosa check points, it's a case of be educated and aware unless you want to be offloading in some layby and getting juicy big fine to go with it. And just to throw a spanner in the works, unless you own the car on the trailer and the total weight is over 3.5 tonnes, you will be expected to produce a tacho printout as you are working for reward whether you are being paid or not. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

I think the towing capability is based on starting and pulling away on a 12% (1 in 8 ) incline. The proper 4x4 in the range all manage this easily because they have a low range box. The FL and Evoque don't so they struggle and thus have a lower capacity.

Rrstdv8 is correct, what you say isn't I'm afraid...the max towing is set by the manufacturer set by vosa etc Also the tachometer rules apply if you are being rewarded...in any way...but there are exceptions to that as well, If you are moving something for a friend etc you dont need a tacho, you dont need to own the item on a trailer either, sorry and according to our transport manager moving something as an incidental eg one off with your own car...you don't need a tacho fitted. Good find. Bit of reading for later I think 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
