Warranties

Hi all, I'm pretty much a newbie here and this will be my first post. Even though I've been a member for some time I've been one of those that sits in the wings having a laugh at some of the posts and also picking up some valuable info along the way.
To cut a long story short, for the last 20 odd years the wife and I have always had a 4X4 on our drive, starting off with a Suzuki Samari Shocked and going through the market of Mitsubishi, Nissans, Mercedes and now (my dream) of a RRS. Bow down Its only a 2007 2.7 but in our eyes its the muts nuts.
We purchased it from Stratstone LandRover in Doncaster and we got a 6 month warranty with the car. In the 6 months we've had it there's been a couple of problems with it (suspension, egr valves amongst other little niggles)
The warranty has just run out but because of the problems we've had with the car, as a goodwill gesture Stratstone have offered to go halves with us towards an extended warranty, whether its their own or an independent one. So my question is ....can any of you guys recommend a half decent warranty.

Thanx in advance Thumbs Up

It all depends on what you want to spend. I have had Warrantywise Platinum cover, and were ok to deal with and they do different levels of cover depending on your budget.

If you intend to use that dealer all the time I would take him up on his offer but maybe try and get a liile bit more out of them, you will possibly be visiting them quite a lot Very Happy

Hi and thanks for the quick replies'

To answer JPR 1, I don't know much about the costs of warranties but if Stratstone are willing to meet me on 50% of the costs I was hoping I could get a half decent one for about £1000 (£500 each) for 12 months. Am I right on this price ?

To answer MSE, The only warranty offered to me at Stratstone was the "The Land Rover Select Warranty" due to the cars age and mileage, but the DP literally was trying to talk me out of it as he was saying that a lot of the parts might not be covered under this warranty.

Thats another thing..... what kind of issues do I need to make sure thats covered as I'm back of the class when it comes to anything mechanical lol TDV6 Zermatt Silver - Fully colour coded - Full HST kit

Land Rover warranty every time. But they are the most expensive but you need a good dealer to go with it. Stratstone has a very bad name on here. Good luck. MY11 Autobiography supercharged. Santorini Black. Monaco interior. Rear screens. Privacy.

Approaved used car warranty through land rover is just over £1200. I was quoted today by dealer " fixing "'mine. Requires a 150 point inspection before it can be applied if out of cover.
Having quite a few mates in the trade, they all swear by AA gold cover. It's £39 a month but those who have made claims on behalf of clients say there is never a quibble, they just ask for photo evidence or on very odd occasion, send an engineer to have a look.
My only concern with LR extended warranty is that its done via a third party and the not included list is quite long and obviously not as comprehensive as LR own warranty. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Always best to read the small print about what is covered.
Personally I would make sure gearbox, engine, and media stuff is covered.
Brake pads, exhaust filters etc will not be in most cases.

I would go online and print off a few comparisons about what is covered. The basic LR one sounds to me they cover stuff that is unlikley to break.
It is a minefield and I know I searched for ages and got swamped with all the different comparisons. The AA one looks good at that price, but check what is covered, plus I think if you are paying monthly this mayl give you leverage to cancel, if not up to scratch.

I have warrantywise gold cover and for roughly £300 for 12 months I get unlimited claims up to the value of the car with 3k per claim and can be used at any vat registered garage. They have a good reputation for quibble free claims. I think it's a great compromise of not paying through the roof for a warranty but being covered on all the major expensive things!

That doesn't make sense. Unlimited but 3 grand a claim. Am in dim mode tonight but 3 grand wouldn't cover engine replacement Embarassed 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Thanx again for replies. I'm going to have a look at the AA Gold cover today and probably end up giving them a call.
Like I said earlier, Stratsone are prepared to meet me half way on the costs of a new warranty so its going to end with me up forking out a lump sum rather than taking it out on a monthly basis Crying or Very sad .

Regarding Stratstone, I cant believe they've got a bad name/reputation on here as they've been brilliant with their after sales service with us. and would definitely go back if and when I want another RR. TDV6 Zermatt Silver - Fully colour coded - Full HST kit

Just to update..... After a load of internet searching and hair pulling out and trying to work the bloody mechanical jargon out I "think" I'm going to be inclined to go for WarrantyDirect. I dont suppose anyone out there could shed a little light and news on them by any chance before I take the plunge, it would be so much appreciated.

Know Scotty has one and trying to get an engine out of them at the moment. Not sure if it is the dealer or the warrenty that is holding process up. Am sure he will be along to enlighten us shortly. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Land rover select covers you up to 10 years or 100k miles. It's not cheap but its paid for itself with my tdv8. Good luck! RRS TDV8 HST

We had initially chosen Landrover Select but the Dealer Principle at Stratstone talked us out of it saying there was quite a few things that wasn't covered that really ought to be and its the DP here that has encouraged us to go out and do some research and find one better and in doing so he was going to contribute 50% of the costs. TDV6 Zermatt Silver - Fully colour coded - Full HST kit
