She was what this country needed at that time. She laid the building blocks that should have been built on by later governments but they failed to act. Rip Maggie 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Love her or hate her - there will be many in either camp, she was loved and hated at the same time , but as VA said , she was in many ways what was needed at the time and its a pity that no one has matched her resolve since. She told us all to ' get on your Bike' and find work ..... wise words which many hard working people amongst us heeded and many now do not ..........

I didn't agree with many of her views but still admired her strength, presence and resolve.

She caused untold misery to many communities throughout the country with her divisive policies and decimated our manufacturing base to put all of the country's eggs in the financial basket which unravelled spectacularly five year ago. |

I was not a supporter but she stood by her beliefs unlike those that came after her and was not in it for the money or fiddling expenses

I left school in 1974 to a country where you couldn't take more than £50 abroad if you went overseas because we were so in hock to the IMF, to a country where management couldn't manage because of the power of a handful of Trade's Union leaders and to a country that didn't make anything because the workforce were always out on strike (not because the government had allowed unprofitable companies to fold but because Trades' Unions wouldn't allow management invest in the latest technology). We had a change in 1977 to an even worse government than the Callaghan/Healey/TUC government and things got worse. Then we got Mrs Thatcher and her team (she didn't fix the country singlehanded but you would think she did reading some of the things in the media today) and suddenly in 1979 we elected in a government that allowed those that wanted to work work, they could buy their social housing if they wanted to, they had enough cash to buy shares, they could have the choice of whether they wanted a mortgage from a bank or a building society (remember before Thatcher you couldn't get a mortgage from a bank and you had to join a queue for a rationed mortgage). What people should never forget (and this is what I find hard to bear in mind when voting) is the state of the nation that she inherited........... a situation repeated not long later created by Mr Brown.

Well said Tim. She also did not charge the British taxpayer for her third house in the Cotswolds, or to clean out her swimming pool.

Manufacturing in this counrty was already dead - it just hadn't realised. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Fact of the matter is that if we hadn't had a PM like her when the "Argies" invaded The Falklands then they wouldn't have been having a vote a month or so ago about did they want to stay under British rule! I for one was a lover of her style, she didn't make everyone happy but you never can please everyone. She encouraged people to get off their arse and do something instead of this give money away state we seem to be nowadays. RIP Thatcher 10 TDV8 Santorini |

I found the footage of celebrations in the streets by the never employed, sponging, educationally sub normal, disrespectful filth to be abhorrent. A little respect surely?

I met her a few times and she was great. Been digging in my archives and found this picture that my father took in 1959 and one I took a few years back.
