When I was reading up on remaps I'm sure I read that initially the MY10 cars had protected ECU's that had to be removed and opened to be remapped. They later got round it without opening up, but it's the only explanation I can think of as to why one would be opened when a car is in warranty.

Have you driven his car? does it feel any different in power to yours? Or it could be the owner had it done and then removed....did it only have the one previous owner?

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

The vehicle has 1 previous owner, who we have been in contact with.

It feels and seems totally standard. I strongly believe no one has tampered with it bar LR themselves.

If you can get a sworn statement from the previous owner then it might be worth mentioning to LR that you're considering a claim against them through the courts. Along with as much publicity as you can muster. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Probably like Dan said I cannot see a Land Rover dealer would ever doing a cheap fix as they never pick up the bill Land Rover does.

Hopefully Dan can spread some light from his check of any warranty work done.

Good luck

my only thoughts are that this may have been possibly remapped, and could of been one of the first to be remapped by a tuning company and therefore they have had to open it up to find the protocol to allow access to the ECU.
Or it went to a tuning company who didnt quite know what they're doing?

i would say there would be no reason for an LR dealership to open one up on a vehicle that is still under warranty, and even if not under warranty they would be unlikely to do so either. Sophie Alltoft

Jjf - I would get trading standards involved - you have done nothing wrong and now have a vehicle needing repair with invalidated warranty and will probably be unable to extend the warranty now as they can use the tampered excuse every time you claim Sad

I would want my money back or replacement that matches the description when you bought it - i.e. balance of manufacturers warranty.... Rolling Eyes

I hope you get this sorted Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

I checked on the bluefine/superchips website http://www.superchips.co.uk/ about remapping an SDV6 and this came up:

Before a bluefin can be used on this model, the ECU must be "bluefin enabled." This is a process that has to be carried out with specialist equipment at one of the Superchips dealers listed, from whom you buy the bluefin at the same time.
Please click the "Locate a dealer" button to proceed.

It might be worth contacting superchips to see if they have carried any work out on your car? This company supply you a handheld device so you can put the car back as standard and remap at will, when ever you want to do so! Cheers Laurence.

It does seem like its been opened (i assuming they have traced it to your car and arent pulling a fast one)

To me, as mentioned, the only way you would open it is to remap it - anything else would be warranty direct replacement...and an ecu replacement and associated manufacture reconditioning would be better and logged!

I would contact some remapping companies to see if they mapped your car

Unfortunately i can see why you would be on a difficult road with the bill etc. Mike

Thanks for all your help and advice.

LR called me, and told me they would speaking to the regional warranty advisor manager. I got hold of him also who agreed the situation was ridiculous and that they would be repairing with a new ECU and delivering the car back this same day. Which they did, with no bill!

Happy days, But so sceptical about it all for the future.

Again thanks for your help and advice!

I wouldn't be too sceptical, they have replaced the ECU so the car is now standard with a factory issued sealed box so can't use that excuse again. Am glad someone had their sensible head on at LR and you have the issue sorted. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
