I could have written your post! I had a TDV8 on a 57 plate until about 4 years ago after which I bought a Jag XKR Cab. I missed the RRS, and about 18 months ago I changed again to an S/C on an 05 plate (and a Boxster S). I live just outside the M25 and commute to work by bicycle/ train. The times I use the car are at weekends and trips away. Even when I go to Arsenal most weeks I very rarely use the car, partly because I like to cycle and it's hassle free but also the cost of petrol is so high nowadays and in the RRS. I'm guessing a 70 mile round trip is probably costing £30!? I went through the same thought process as you and figured that petrol costs aren't a big, big issue for me given the low mileage so went for the much cheaper (but older S/C). If I'm being honest, whilst I like the power of the S/C, I would prefer a more fuel efficient diesel and perhaps even the TDV6 other things being equal. |

Supercharged! Services are 12 months or 15000 miles which ever comes first. But test drive both and you will see which one you like. Good luck. |

There is no doubt that you will get more bang for your buck from a supercharged. There is realistically not much difference in fuel use doing short journeys, the TDV8 will be better on long runs. Diesel does low 20's in town, 28-30 on motorways and about 25 towing a 27 ft double axle caravan. Main issue would be resale, while cheaper to buy, the petrol will be harder to sell come the end and possibly lose money faster, so it's a choice only you can make.

As a TDV8 owner I'd say SC all the way if your mileage is low. I came close to swapping but Im keeping the RRS and I bought a 10 year old 911 last week instead |

Not sure about supercharged but my TD was @ 400 for minor and 750 for major. Add set of pads per service to that as Brembos seem to eat pads every 15000 miles at @ 200 fitted. Tyres should be good for 20-30000 miles. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

For your low anticipated mileage I'd personally say Supercharged. I faced exactly the same scenario when I bought mine 18 mts ago. I went for the Supercharged..............................................It's great, you'll love it !

Smokes a bit on start up???? Avoid with huge detour! Cars that smoke when cold usual indicate some wear in something. Charger does get bit oily and uses oil but shouldn't smoke. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

You can be honest and tell the agent to go ![]() Also, as far as I know supercharged is not difficult to sell since there are not so many around precisely for the petrol prices/consumption reasons. Which makes sense high demand for a short supply (both in relative terms). Vadim A. |
