Calling all Ski-ists - update

Hi chaps,
After 20 odd years off the planks, I have booked a few days skiing in march with mates, most are seasoned skiers, and have their own ideas of where to go, but I want to bring some ideas to the table.
We have booked flights only to geneva at the moment, we are waiting to see what the conditions are like before deciding on a resort.
Anyone have any ideas of decent places to go within 2 hours of geneva? Must have higher altitude for snow, and good nightlife! Also somewhere that is not massively expensive (a big wish, but will probably rule out Switzerland and anywhere crowded with Russian billionaires!)
Cheers

Saas Fee Question It's a smaller resort and definitely a little more up market than others so won't get groups of lads partying until the early hours, but a few decent bars/clubs etc.
The only thing is cost Sad but a nice resort all the same Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Verbier is also pretty good. Think about two hours from airport. I alway stay in Vevvey which is only 45 mins by train. Well my sister has a chateau there so no need for hotel. Thumbs Up MY11 Autobiography supercharged. Santorini Black. Monaco interior. Rear screens. Privacy.

I always used to enjoy Avoriaz, it's part of the Ports Du Soleil ski area, which is massive!

Thanks for the replys. I will now need to stick all the info onto my spreadsheet of costs v nightlife! It seems like most have set the bar quite high, Meribel,Switzerland and Helicopters don't come cheap!!
Cheers

If your wanting snow and its a bit thin on the ground when your going then, I would head Morzine/Avoriaz (avoriaz is a concrete town on the side of a mountain and you ski from your door)

Chatel is quite good, night life not too bad

Meribel was fantastic snowboarding and great night life

Chamonix too many buses to the slopes and great nightlife

I grew up in saas fee so can definitely recommend that one, few very good bars for après, but you need to be a capable intermediate to enjoy the best terrain. Plus it's not as expensive as you think and the town is perfect....one of my fav places.

I just got back from 3 weeks in Vail, USA and am off to Morzine / Avoriaz on Wednesday for a lads trip. Snow is supposed to be good, but I will report back as I have not been before!

3 valleys is also very good though!! Now

Vote for Meribel as wll from me Smile

3 valleys has plenty of routes Black, Red, Blue and even a green in some places IIRC Smile

Some chalets and apartments are right on the slopes as well if your lucky. I was at one last month and literally a 10yard walk from the front door and you were on the slopes!

I cheated one day as the roads hadn't been ploughed and still fresh snow so went 30yards down the road and onto the slope from there Smile Was great about 2 hours later to come just off the slope and down the road almost upto the door Very Happy

Buses are great upto midnight and taxi drivers are even more nuts than over here in the conditions but the nights out aren't too bad Smile Le tavern is tiny and always busy-ish but pricey. Le pub is much better for a lads night or Barometer for the maturer gent Smile FFRR Owner, SSRR engine destroyer!(*2) & Creator of SSRR Smile
