Ady, if everyone had winter tyres fitted then there would be a lot less chances of that jam happening in the first place. People driving around on low profile summer tyres are what causes the problem because they can't move in heavy snow. As the chap says in the video, some people have tried to move and just slid sideays in to other vehicles - they probably wouldn't have done that with winter tyres on.

The stupid thing is that there would have been a small number of people in that jam who could have driven home but they're stuck because the police won't let them use the hard shoulder to drive out. And if you tried there'd be some numpty who would slither across to prevent you - "I'm stuck so you're stuck too mate" 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Totally agree, the police would prefer everyone to be stuck rather than one or smart arses being able to continue their journey.
